It's all downhill from here

I thought I'd missed out a whole season there. However, I just started digging around in the website files, meaning to start things up again, and I found I'd written a couple of match reports for last season after all. So here they are, along with the results for the rest of the season.

2 May 1998

Oakhall 2 Beckenham 1

4 April 1998

Beckenham 0 Croydon United 2

28 March 1998

New Life 4 Beckenham 1

21 March 1998

Beckenham 1 Lee United 2

14 March 1998

Beckenham 2 Bromley 3

28 February 1998

West Croydon 2 Beckenham 2

21 February 1998

Beckenham 4 St Mary 1

14 February 1998

Lee United 2 Beckenham 1

Whilst I'm not writing reports for all these games, this one definitely worth a mention. An heroic backs-to-the-wall effort with 9 (nine) men for over an hour, Richard having been carted off to Casualty by Keri with a head wound. We lost it in the last five...

7 February 1998

Beckenham 2 Lewin Sports 2

17 January 1998

Bromley 3 Beckenham 3

13 December 1997

Beckenham 3 New Life 2

Splendid fightback from two down and disarray after twenty minutes against much-fancied newcomers to the division.

The match was only forty minutes each way because the ref had to leave promptly. Which was nice. In the event.

Yet another side playing in yellow, which used to be our prerogative. OK, this was in the seventies (just), not too long from the days when football shirts were red, blue or white, except for Norwich City.

And we never played them, so it wasn't a problem.

Scorers: Jon T. 2, Richard N.

6 December 1997

Lewin Sports 4 Beckenham 4

Disappointing, this one. We were three up in half an hour, although not totally through our own efforts but via a rather apathetic opposition a man short. They got him back on, got all interested, and then where we?

Back at three-all, we scored again, only for them to equalise with a goal which most witnesses thought to have been a tad offside. (I use the word 'tad' in its original Anglo-Saxon meaning of 'about five yards'.)

But who hadn't brought a linesman? Well, us, of course. At least it's not three points for a win in our league.

Scorers: David, Steve 2, Jon T.
