The Thumbnail BrowserWhen you open the browser, the left window shows the folder tree. As soon as you click on a folder, Irfan View starts generating thumbnails for the files in that folder. Thumbnail generation is very fast, even for images of two or three megabytes. One can stop the process if it is taking too long, but I doubt if you will need to. On my 1 Ghz AMD PC, it took about 100 seconds to generate 200 pixel thumbnails for over 1 Gbyte of JPG and TIFF images. The pictures can be moved or copied with the mouse or opened at full size in Irfan View. They can be sorted by name, type, size, or date, in ascending or descending order. After selecting several thumbnails, you can run a slideshow, combine them in a single image, make an html page that displays the thumbnails and links them to the full images, create a contact sheet, open the batch process dialogue to perform the same changes on them, or print them all as single images. For sound files it will just generate icons, for Truetype fonts, and Text Files, it will generate a minature preview. MP3 and WAV files can be played via PlugIns, Truetype fonts open with a user defined text sample, text files can be opened too, but are converted to B&W graphics at 96 dpi. |
