George Chambers, 1828, Swaffham Prior

This is the last will and testament of me George Chambers of the parish of Swaffham Prior in the county of Cambridge ffarmer that is to say in the first place I give and devise unto my son Isaac Chambers all that my messuage or tenement situate lying and being in Swaffham Prior aforesaid wherein he lately dwelt and also all those thirteen acres of land or ground late the estate of Benjamin Barker esquire also eight acres of land or ground in Swaffham Prior aforesaid lying next Head Lake Drove and being part of the estate which I purchased of Christopher Pemberton Esquire also all that piece or parcel of land called the Bridge Ground abutting upon the Great Drove West and also all that dolver or piece of ground lying next lands of Mrs Allix and abutting upon the Great Drove West and also all those two grounds late Stantons and Harts abutting upon the Lord's Ground West I also give and devise unto my said so Isaac Chambers thirty five acres of land or ground situate lying and being in Waterbeach in the said county of Cambridge and being part and parcel of a certain piece or parcel of land or ground lately set out and allotted to me under and by virtue of an act of parliament lately passed for enclosing the said parish of Waterbeach and which said thirty five acres of land or ground it is my will and meaning shall be set out and taken from the said piece or parcel of land or ground so allotted as aforesaid nearest to the lands in Waterbeach aforesaid belonging to Henry Doggett to hold all and singular the said messuage or tenement pieces or parcels of land or ground hereditaments and premises with their appurtenances unto my said son Isaac Chambers his heirs and assigns for ever ITEM I give and devise unto my grandsons Robert Chambers and William Chambers sons of my late son William Chambers all that messuage or tenement and premises sitaute and lying in Swaffham Prior aforesaid wherein I now dwell with the barns stables outhouses and appurtenances thereto belonging and also all those seventy one acres of adventures land situate and lying in Swaffham High Ffen and also all thating estate in Swaffham aforesaid which I purchased of Christopher Pemberton Esquire (save and except such part thereof as I have herein before devised to my son Isaac Chambers) and also all that my estate in Swaffham aforesaid which I purchased of Mr Robinson to hold and singular [The Mark of X George Chambers-Witnesses I. Wentworth, A. R. Davies, Elizabeth Feast] the said messuage or tenement land ground hereditaments and premises with their and every of their rights members and appurtenances unto my said grandsons Robert Chambers and William Chambers their heirs and assigns for ever but in case the said Robert Chambers and William Chambers shall depart this life under age without issue then I give and devise the same messuages and lands tenements and hereditaments unto my grandson George Denny Chambers his heirs and assigns for ever I give and devise unto William Raymond of Swaffham Prior aforesaid yeoman and Mary his wife all that piece and parcel of land situate lying and being in Waterbeach aforesaid and being the residue and remainder (after the devise herebefore contained to my son Isaac Chambers) of all that piece or parcel of land or ground lately set out and allotted to me under the said herebefore mentioned act of parliament for enclosing the said parish of Waterbeach To hold the said piece or parcel of land or ground with the appurtenances unto the said William Raymond and Mary his wife and their assigns during their joint natural lives and the life of the survivor of them without impeachment of waste and from and after the decease of the survivor of them the said William Raymond and Mary Raymond then I give and devise the same unto my said grandson George Denny Chambers his heirs and assigns for ever ITEM I give and devise unto the said William Raymond and Mary his wife all that messuage or tenement sitaute and being in Swaffham Prior aforesaid and lately used as a public house together with the outhouse buildings yards gardens and appurtenances thereto belonging together with the piece of ground or dolverthereto adjoining and also all those two dolvers or pieces of land lying in Swaffham aforesiad called the Smock Ground and also the piece of land late Mr Bourjers and adjoining the Rand Drove also all those two pieces of Fen Ground or Dolves lately purchased by me of Mileson Poulter and also all that piece of ground adjoining called the Head Lake and also all those five pieces of Fen land or dolvers abutting upon Rand Drove aforesaid and heretofore the estate of _________ Stanton and __________ Hart To hold the said messuage or tenement pieces or parcels of land or ground hereditaments and premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said William Raymond and Mary Raymond and their assigns for and during the term [AS PREVIOUS BOX] of their joint natural lives and the life of the survivor of them without impeachment of waste and from and after the decease of the survivor of them them the said William raymond and Mary Raymond I give and devise the said messuages lands tenements and hereditaments unto all and every the child and children of my said Mary raymond as shall be living at the time of her decease To hold to them their heirs and assigns as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and in any case my said daughter shall happen to depart this life without lawful issue then I do give and devise the said messuages and tenenaments lands and herditaments and premises unto my grandson George Denny Chambers his heirs and assigns for ever. ITEM I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Raymond all and singular my household furniture and dairy utensils whatsoever I likewise give and bequeath to my son George Chambers the sum of fifty pounds which I direct may be paid within six months after my decease I also give and bequeath unto my said son Isaac Chambers and my said daughter Mary raymond all and singular my live and dead farming stock of a whatsoever nature or kind the same may money gords chattels and effects whatsoever after payment of the legacy herein mentioned and my funeral and testamentary expenses to be equally divided between them the said Isaac Chambers and Mary raymond share and share alike and lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said sons George Chambers and Isaac Chambers executors of this my will hereby revoking all former wills by me made In witness whereof I the said George Chambers the testator have to this my last will and testament contained in three sheets of paper set my hand and seal that is to say to the first two sheets thereof my hand and to this third and last sheet my hand and seal this tenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three - The mark and seal of X George Chambers - signed sealed published and decalred by the said testator George Chambers as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto I. Proved by the oath of Isaac Chambers one of the executors named above (power being reserved to George Chambers the other executor above named) before the Reverend Aldous Edward Henshaw Clerk Surrogate. 9th August 1828, Effects sworn under 800 pounds.
