Website Introduction

The small parish of Swaffham Prior lies a few miles to the east of the English university town of Cambridge. It rests on the river Cam and forms the southern edge of the East Anglia fenlands. It was always a rural parish and has largely remained so into the twenty-first century.

Swaffham Prior has a recorded history that stretches back to the Domesday Book and beyond. Archaeological studies in the area take its unrecorded history back to pre-Roman times.

The records I have in my possession stretch from  1086 to round about 1910 and includes parish registers, manorial documents, taxation rolls, poll books, census returns, directories, probate records, tithe maps, etc.

I have collected as many names as possible from these documents and have added, and will continue to add, them to this web site.

Please e-mail me with any questions, corrections, further information or if you think I my records could further your family history research.
