This particular rifle is built on on a Remington 700 .308 VSF chassis and was designed with practical shooting in mind. The HP precision stock and fluted barrel make the design lighter and handier than the AICS. The 26” fluted barrel has a concave target crown and the action has been fitted with a 10rd detachable magazine to permit high capacity rapid magazine changes.
The stock is a desert tan H-S Precision stock with full length aluminium bedding blocks.
TVG’s guidance notes: H-S Precision Stock
When purchasing a Remington VSF a tan Pro-Series varmint stock comes as standard. Traditional in layout the stock is a composite synthetic which provides an all weather capability.
These stocks should not be compared to the AICS as its role is completely different, more of a general purpose stock rather than a purposely designed sniper model. However within its class this is a good stock and after market version are available in a wide range of models and colour configurations.
The rifle fits onto an aluminium bedding block and the stock is fitted with three QD studs permitting the attachment of a Harris bipod and a sling. This makes the stock considerably lighter and cheaper than the more specialised AICS. The lighter format is more suitable for engaging targets in the standing/kneeling position and requires less physical effort to haul around the wilderness.
One major advantage of this stock is the availability of after market trigger guard assembly which in .308 can accommodate a detachable 10rd magazine. In the UK this makes this stock very attractive to competitors wishing to participate in practical competitions.
Two comments I did have for this stock was one, the ease of which you could deposit a oily film on the stocks surface, especially when cleaning the rifle. This would discolour the stock slightly and provide for a less efficient grip. The solution was to wipe the stocks surface down with a mild detergent wipe and quickly dry off. The second was the lack of any checkering which reduced your grip efficiency especially when the stock was wet.
