This rifle is built on on a Remington 700 .308 PSS chassis, however a .308 SPS tactical or Varmint may be used at reduced cost. It was designed with medium to long range (up to 1000yrds) in mind. The barrel is a 26” heavy barrel with a concave target crown and threaded to accept a muzzle brake or moderator. Trigger is standard although after market versions can be fitted. Bolt knob, scope base and rings are of a tactical design and the scope is a Leupold M4 LRT.
The stock is a Accuracy international AICS unit which can accommodate a 5 or 10rd detachable magazines and is available in black or green.
TVG’s guidance notes: AICS Stock
This is a good stock and originates from the British Army’s Accuracy International Sniper Rifle. In fact I would go so far as to say this is one of the best after market stocks for the 700.
It consists on two principle components, the aluminium chassis and the side plates. The two side plates formulate the thumbhole stock and secures to the chassis. As a result the stock does not touch the barrel/mechanism at all which is an absolute plus for accuracy. The chassis bolts naturally to the mechanism so does not require any form of bedding. The chassis supports a 5 or 10rd magazine, cheekpiece, buttplate, (adjustable models are also available), fittings for two different type of bipod, sling attachments and if required a monopod.
The side plates are plastic available in black or olive green and as one would expect from a successful sniper rifle this stock is robust and will stand up to all climatic conditions.
The stocks layout is “in line” with the bore, rather than the more traditional layout. This is again beneficial to accuracy. All of the above however comes with a penalty and that is weight. This is no lightweight hunting or practical rifle, if you wont to take this on a hunting trip or participate in a practical comp, get down the gym before hand. What is a penalty for some is a bonus for others. The heavy weight makes for a stable shooting platform which is ideal for medium to long range engagements.
The stock is available for both short and long action 700’s and the magazines will accommodate the following calibres, short action, .308, .243, 7mm-08 & 22-250, long action, 7mm Mag & .300WM.
One ever so tiny minus point is when cleaning the barrel. The cleaning rod has to flex a bit to clear the cheekpiece, if you have an adjustable model you will have to reset it every time your clean the bore.
