Construction
This moderator is manufactured in aluminium to reduce weight and corrosion. As moderators generate a lot of moisture especially in the winter months, moderator designs that are sealed and manufactured from steel will have serious corrosion issues over the units life span.
TVG telescopic moderators are designed for centerfire cartridges up to .223 in calibre. All dimensions for the telescopic moderators are the same with only the bore diameter varying to accommodate the various calibres. Dimensions are:L 215mm x W 45mm
All parts are anodised to protect them from the environment, gas erosion and are available in a variety of colours, however the default colour is black.
Telescopic design
The benefits of a telescopic moderator is that it keeps the overall barrel length short but the internal dimensions fairly spacious. Unlike other moderators TVG’s model is a fully sealed unit which prevents the propellant gases coming into contact with the barrel surface and ruining it.
Blast Plate
A stainless steel blast plate is incorporated into the first baffle of the moderator to reduce wear as this baffle takes the most blast. This plate can be removed for cleaning or replaced if worn.
Stripping
The moderator is designed to be simply stripped and to facilitate easy cleaning. Stripping promotes longevity of the moderator and maintains constant performance over the moderators lifetime. Should a component wear out, then the worn item can be replaced rather than replacing the whole unit. Click on the instructions above to take you to the appropriate page.
Attenuation Data
The following attenuation data was recorded using a Quest Technologies Industrial sound level meter.
Rifle: BSA Hunter, Calibre: .22 Hornet
Without moderator, at the ear: 128.3dB(A), 1m 90° to muzzle: 133.9dB(A)
With moderator, at the ear: 107.0dB(A), 1m 90° to muzzle: 117.5dB(A)
