"Home... it's not, necessarily, about fabric and walls and ceilings and roofs, it's about people. And about people being marginalised and dispossessed of their homes... this song is about dispossession, in a way, about what's happening in lots of parts of the world." John Tams
It seems I need a section on tunes as well as lyrics now! The polska that goes with this song on the album Home was previously glimpsed on the 1988 film "The Raggedy Rawney" in which John had a part and composed some of the music. The song, though written in July 2002, still echoes the dispossession and dislocation of community that was at the heart of the movie.
The Traveller
Roll on a muffled drum
Homeward bound
Home is a smoking gun
Homeward bound
Home where a future calls
Homeward bound
Charred lives on charcoal walls
Homeward bound
Homeward bound Homeward bound Homeward bound Homeward bound
Starburst against the night
Homeward bound
No words can make it right
Homeward bound
No words can make it known
Homeward bound
Define a place called home
Homeward bound
Homeward bound Homeward bound Homeward bound Homeward bound
