First Treatment
At the initial treatment Maureen will take a full case history which involves not only questions about the immediate problem but also details of past illnesses, family tendencies as well as assessing the functioning of all the body systems. Chinese Medicine views the body holistically so symptoms that may seem unrelated often fit together into a coherent picture. She will also feel the pulses in your wrists, and look at your tongue, both providing useful diagnostic information.
Acupuncture treatment consists of the insertion of fine needles into a few carefully selected points on the body to rectify the imbalance diagnosed. Some needles may be inserted only briefly and others left in for up to 20 minutes. This sensation usually feels tingly, or heavy and spreading, rather than pricking. Since the needles are so fine acupuncture is not usually found to be painful.
As well as using needles she may heat some acupuncture points using a Chinese herb called moxa, if this is the right thing for you. Electroacupuncture, or ‘cupping’ where small glass bowls are used to apply suction to certain acupuncture points may be decided upon as the best treatment. She may also have suggestions about your diet or other aspects of your lifestyle which could benefit your individual health.
Duration : 90 minutes
Cost: £40
Who can receive treatment?
There is practically no age limit for patients. Babies and children can be treated ( needles are often not used as massage of the point is sufficient). There is no upper age limit. Pregnant women are treated using precautions in the choice of points therfor it is essential to tell the practitioner if pregnant.
Subsequent treatments

The duration of your treatment will vary depending on whether your individual diagnosis requires any needles to be left in for a short while, or inserted only briefly.
