I've had the privilege of travelling to some wonderful places around the world on business and on holidays. I've included some of my favourite photos here.

The images are 1280x1024 pixels resolution in JPEG format which is suitable for background wallpaper on most PCs or Macs, or 1440x900 pixels, which are suitable for widescreen laptops The images are all under 500kb as I have reduced the quality. If would like the high quality full resolution JPEG image (or CCD RAW format where available), please email me.

I took this photo of Pen-Y-Ghent from Ingleborough on the way back to the Pen-Y-Ghent cafe (finish) during Three Yorkshire Peaks Challenge in May 2009. Pen-Y-Ghent was covered in mist when I started the ascent at 7.25am!

French Alps

Mont Blanc from Col De Balme Mont Blanc from Col de Balme (2343m)
This is the pass between the Chamonix valley and Switzerland. The views are spectacular in all directions. From this distance you can really appreciate the sheer size of the Mont Blanc massif.
Mont Blanc from Col De Balme Mont Blanc summit from Aiguille Du Midi (3842m)
Zoom in closely and you will see people trekking to the summit of Mont Blanc.
La Vallee Blanche La Vallee Blanche with Mont Blanc in the background
I took this photo from the horizontal cable car which runs from Aiguille du Midi to the Pont Brenner on the Italian border. When the cable car stopped, it was completely silent. If you look very closely, on the left side of the photo there is a party trekking across the glacier.

Bernese Alps, Switzerland

Lauterbrunnental Lauterbrunnental Lauterbrunnental from Wengen(1274m)
I took this quite early in the morning, as the sun was just startiung to reach the valley floor.
Stechelberg Stechelberg Trail from Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg
This is a really nice hike, as the views are spectacular - the walls of the Lauterbrunnen glacier valley rise 800m on both sides, with numerous waterfalls, and the snow-capped mountain peaks beyond.
Eiger & Monch from Mannlichen path Eiger & Monch from Mannlichen path Eiger & Monch
from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg path (2061m)

View of Grindelwald in the valley far below.
Eiger Trail Eiger Trail Eiger Trail
The trek from the Eigergletscher station (Jungfraubahn) down to Alpiglen / Grindelwald is stunning. There were many steep snow banks at the base of the Eiger North Wall - one slip and you're over a cliff! When I reached Alpiglen I saw a sign that said the Eiger Trail was still closed!
Eiger North Wall Eiger North Wall Eiger North Wall (Eiger Nord Wand)
Spectacular view of Grindelwald thousands of metres below.
Jungfrau Jungfrau Jungfrau summit from Jungfraujoch (3471m)

Jungfrau Jungfrau Schynige Platte (1987m)
The Schynige Platte is a bit of a sun trap with plenty of alpine flowers, and is protected from the high winds of the surrounding valleys.
Lake Brienz Lake Brienz Lake Brienz from Schynige Platte (1987m)
This view is spectacular, but I wasn't very keen on going any closer to the edge, given the huge drop. Lake Brienz really is that colour (no trickery in Photoshop).

Valais Alps, Switzerland

Matterhorn Sunrise Matterhorn Sunrise Matterhorn before sunrise
I took this from Rothorn before 5am. It was hard to keep the camera steady in the freezing conditions and the effects of wind chill.
Matterhorn Sunrise Matterhorn Sunrise Matterhorn with sunrise just reaching summit
The sky produces some amazing colours just before the sun hits the top of the Matterhorn.
Matterhorn with sun rising Matterhorn with sun rising Matterhorn bathed in sunrise
It only takes a few minutes for the sunlight to cover the Matterhorn, but the effect is truly memorable.

Matterhon North Face Matterhorn North Face Matterhorn North Face with Mettelhorn in foreground
View from ~3500m of the Matterhorn North Face (the most difficult climbing route) with Mettelhorn in the foreground.
Eidelweiss Eidelweiss Eidelweiss
Despite the numerous trips to the Alps, I've only seen Eidelweiss growing in the wild once, at a quite remote spot high above Zermatt, but I'm not going to reveal exactly where I took this photo!
Matterhorn from Hobalm Matterhorn from Hobalm Matterhorn from Hoblam
The Hobalm route is at ~3000m altitude, and provides spectacular views of the Matterhorn and the Monta Rosa range. I started this hike from the Berggasthaus Trift, where I stayed the previous night. Notice the cloud forming on the summit and the strong westerly winds.
Matterhorn from Riffelsee Matterhorn from Riffelsee Matterhorn from Riffelsee
I took this photo in 2006.
Matterhorn from Gornergrat Matterhorn from Gornergrat Matterhorn from Gornergrat
I took this photo in summer 2006, notice how there's a lot less snow than in the sunrise photos above (which were taken in summer 2007).
Matterhorn from Taschalp path Matterhorn from Taschalp path Matterhorn from Taschalp path
This is one of favourite photos because it shows difference in elevation between the Matterhorn and Zermatt, 3000m below in the valley.
Tasdhalp Tasdhalp Taschalp
This is a really nice hike with great views and away from the crowds.
