Personal Interests
My personal interests are as follows:
Alpine Hiking
It's probably quite obvious from the banner images on this website, but I love to go hiking, especially in the Alps. I have spent many very enjoyable weeks in the Austrian Tyrol, Chamonix-Mt. Blanc in the French Alps, Zermatt and Wengen in Swiss Alps, and the Julian Alps in Slovenia. There are some photos on the Photo Gallery page which can be downloaded for use as screen backgrounds.
Astronomy
I wish I had more time to gaze at the stars, but life's too busy these days. Some highlghts for me have been watching lunar eclipses through my telescope.
Here's a photo taken with my 150mm Newtonian reflector and an SLR from 2001. Unfortunately the weather in the UK meant that the February 2008 Lunar Eclipse
was a bit of a disappointment.
Badger Conservation
I am a real fan of these misunderstood creatures. I had the privilege of going on a badger watch at a nature reserve in 2004. Seeing the badgers appear in the twilight was amazing, only the stripes on their heads were visible at first before they came fully into view, which was a bit surreal. For more information about badgers, check out the Badger Trust website.
Greyhounds
Since giving a home to a retired greyhound in early 2008, I have become a real greyhound bore!. They are very intelligent, sensitve and gentle dogs. They really appeciate kindness and affection after a hard life of racing. They learn house training very quickly, and are easy to keep as they only need a few short walks per day, and are couch potatoes for the rest of the time. For more information, please visit the Retired Greyhound Trust website (UK).
Website design
In addition to developing this website, I also maintain several other websites. I've recently learned XHTML. I tend to use the free Alleycode HTML Editor for writing XHTML and I use the W3C XHTML Validation Service for validation. I also write RSS feeds in XML, and use W3C RSS Feed Validation Service.
