The
Penfold Trust is a fundraising organisation that
preserves the memory of Philip (Penfold) Hamilton. In 1999,
Dame Norma Major accepted our invitation to become Patron
of the Penfold Quiz and we are extremely pleased to have a
person of such credibility and status in the community helping
us with our charity work. Over the intervening years, The
Penfold Quiz has evolved into The Penfold Trust and Dame Norma
again agreed to continue her support as Patron. The Penfold
Trust became a registered charity in June 2006.
As Phil was a quiz lover,
our fundraising activities have always included an annual
quiz in tribute to him. The first Penfold Quiz was held in
June 1996 and so far we have raised over £30,000 from
the quizzes with another £15,000 from other fundraising
events. Most of the money has been donated to Ward D10 and
Haematology Department, Addenbrooke's
Hospital Cambridge, where 'Penfold' was treated but, we are
more than happy to support other local good causes.
The 2012 Penfold Quiz will
be held on the 16th of March 2012 at 8pm.
The 2011 Penfold Quiz was
held on the 18th of March and was won by The
Flying Kebabs. During the evening we managed to raise
£2,050 and presented £1,000 to Ward D10 and Haematology
Department, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.
The 2010 Penfold Quiz was
held on the 19th March and was won by The
Lemon Drop Kids. During the evening thanks to everybodys
support, we raised £2,360. We also presented £2,400
worth of equipment to Papworth Hospital, Cambridge and a further
£1,000 to Ward D10 and Haematology Department, Addenbrooke's
Hospital, Cambridge.

Dave Misseldine with members of the Trust, presenting various
pieces of equipment including portable DVD players, digital
scales, digital thermometers and blood pressure monitors to
Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. Accepting these gifts on behalf
of the hospital were (L to R) nurses Lana Shirley and Sarah
Cook.

The 2009
Penfold Quiz was held on the 20th March and
was won
by Fat Chance. The evening raised £2,985 with donations
of £750 from Barclays Bank, £100 from Sound on
Sound and £30 from The Cambridge Building Society. During
the evening, we presented £1,000 to both Ward D10 and
Haematology Department, Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge and
Headstart4Babies,
another local charity. During 2009, we were also very pleased
to receive further donations of £270 from Waitrose Ltd
and £107 from the St. Ives Football Club. |
