Sutherland Tables can be used to compare the cost of using different domestic fuels under similar conditions

Sutherland Tables provide information on the cost of space and water heating for 3 sizes of house, namely 2-bed terrace, 3-bed semi and 4-bed detached. Means of heating include solid fuel in its various forms, electricity in peak and off-peak appliances, gas, LPG and Oil

They can also be used to give an indication of the actual operating costs in a particular dwelling. The quantity of fuel used in each area is adjusted to accommodate different climatic conditions

Information on the cost of heating an individual room by all common means is also provided.

Such means range from open and closed solid fuel appliances, through gas and electric heaters, to fixed and portable LPG heaters
