Heavy
Metal |
What exactly is the metal genre nowadays? It appears to have originated as "Heavy Metal" I guess - from "Progressive" or "Prog", with in some cases "screamed" vocals. The Kinks, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath could be cited as early examples, the latter with more insistent and modulated type guitar work - Like "Paranoid" for instance |
This page is now linked FROM the website, and you can get TO the site from it. Other bands Jesse mentioned also appear. Most of the links of the younger bands are on MySpace etc. Bands seem not to opt for individual sites these days! |
Heavy Metal - Death Metal -Black Metal -Thash Metal - Speed Metal - Glam Metal - Rap Metal - There are many more! The genre certainly is not Rusty Metal yet! |
Links with EMO - like the scream vocal style. Also links with punk (obviously) and Goth. |
Current bands. Judas Priest, Iron Maiden Metallica and others still continue. It even hit Eurovison! Children of Bodom, Dimmu Borgir Blind Guardian and HammerFall are all European examples. It is particularly strong in Scandinavia and Germany. |
Most of the links here are from Jesse, 18 in Baltimore USA who is a big fan of the genre. Beckonsale are c/o Tom, a colleague. |
History - Guess it dates back to advanced electric guitar playing - effects pedals etc. Blues Rock and Psychedelic rock were early terms used. |
Early bands. The kinks, The Who, Alice Cooper, The Spiders, Cream, Golden Earring, Led Zeppelin |

A Day To Remember A suggestion by Tom - not told Jesse yet! |
A Day to Remember (commonly abbreviated to ADTR) is a five-piece post-hardcore band, originally from Ocala, Florida. Signed to Victory Records, they are often said to have influences in many other genres other than post-hardcore, including pop punk, metalcore, and even melodic death metal. The bands music has been described as mixing death metal grunts with the brash melodies of pop-punk, and a cross between bouncy pop punk chugging metalcore. |
This band has indeed got many facets - a varied sound indeed! Not just hardcore. They seem to have absorbed many influences. |

When Gotham Falls emerged from Baltimore, Maryland in 2007. With strong vocals, heavy yet melodic guitar riffs, a solid rhythm section, and an extremely intense stage show, When Gotham Falls has taken their music to the masses with critical acclaim. When Gotham Falls much anticipated debut record entitled Volume I: A Hero Will Rise hit the streets on September 12, 2008. The diversity of the song selection is striking: from the piano driven ballad Caroline, to the thought provoking Give up the Ghost and the radio favorite Rewind the band reaches new heights as artists. The inherent drama in When Gotham Falls music a kind of audio odyssey that can turn on a dime from piano-led introspection to hammering guitar has resonated with listeners across the globe. The band's aggressive core finds a counterpart in their passionate vocals, lyrics that forge a connection with audiences searching for identity or struggling with feelings of desire, hope, love and loss. |
