STATUS
This short section of Canal is in single ownership, and is strictly private. We do not have permission to work on it.
One of the shortest sections, by my definition.
The length immediately to the west of the A3102 has been obliterated by the re-alignment of the road, which now crosses the line at
approximately water level. On the east side of the road the ground is
massively banked up - presumably with the spoil from the road
re-alignment.
On the other side of the embankment, the canal has been largely infilled for the first field length.
The line is than crossed by a culvert; from here to Breach Lane the Canal is visible, overgrown but not infilled, in a deepening cutting as the land rises.
Greenhill BridgeThere appears to be adequate height to reinstate Greenhill Bridge, but a level survey is needed. Nadia is standing on the crown of the bridge. |

Much depends on the alignment of the proposed Wootton Bassett Bypass,
and the final design of the Vastern crossing - if that ever happens.
If the part that is in water can be re-used, it will be a very simple
project. Especially if the owner will allow silt dumping on his
property.
There are no known water supplies on this section.
This section is strictly private, there is no right of way.
This is a rural stretch, you will have to wait till you get to Wootton Bassett.
