DESCRIPTION

What Jack Dalby said in 1985
......the site of Stanley New Bridge at 959729. Over the road 100 metres of the bed is filled but the bed then reappears and is unfilled to Bremhill Wick Bridge site at 969746.

Not yet explored. Just north of Stanley New Bridge the canal is infilled and a large modern barn or machinery depot, part of Stanley Bridge Farm, has been built.

The Canal was dredged by the owner in 1996/early 1997, southwards from Bremhill Wick Bridge, for a distance unknown. It holds water but not up to full depth.

The picture shows the view looking south from the road.

Looking south from Bremhill Wick Bridge

Bremhill Wick Bridge shows as a slight rise in the road level. It is piped with 2 (I think) pipes about 2 ft. in diameter.

RESTORATION

No plans at present.

WATER SUPPLIES

Not investigated. The Canal runs round the side of Bencroft Hill.

RIGHTS OF WAY

The towpath is not a right of way, and none crosses the line on this section.

HOSTELRIES

Probably the nearest is the Dumb Post in Studley.
