Wilts And Berks Canal

45.7 cm X 35.6 cm - Huile sur toile

The Wilts & Berks Canal opened in 1810. The part linking Swindon to the Thames & Severn Canal at Latton became part of the Wilts & Berks Canal in 1820. The canal suffered from the competition from the railway, declined in use, fall into disrepair and was finally abandoned by an Act of Parliament in 1914. Some restoration work is carried out on the Canal. The painting shows a stretch of the Canal at the bottom of Bath road, few minutes away from the Town Centre.
