OUR APPROACH
Small Groups
We divide our children into four groups with 6 or 7
children in each group on any particular day. The youngest children start in
the Squirrels with 2 or 3 sessions a week and gradually move up to the Giraffes,
increasing their sessions as they go.

A qualified member of staff, known as a key worker,
heads each group. They are responsible for planning Small Group Time activities
and keeping track of each child’s progress.
SMALL GROUP
TIME
Each
group takes part in a short, age-appropriate activity. These activities are
planned to consolidate previously learnt concepts, introduce them to new
experiences and help them to gain new skills. The planning is flexible enough
for the key worker to react to spontaneous events or incorporate areas of
particular interest to the children. Confectionary is usually a popular subject
!
Smarties

A topic-based approach to overall planning enables
us to vary the setting with additional props and materials to enrich the
children’s pre-school experience. Individual topics usually last half a term -
roughly 6 weeks.
At the time of writing the topic is Food and here we all are in the
children’s very own street café…
