Gary Ward struck six times as Caister United A continued their good start to the season. The side that finished mid table in the second division but still found themselves in the top flight have adapted very well and on Saturday defeated fellow promoted rival Burgh Hall 9-2 as Anthony Hall also netted twice and Lee George once.

A team really struggling this season is Star & Garter who remain without a point after eight games. Last weekend Great Yarmouth Town Hall opened the scoring after Vinny Ruggerio put an inch perfect cross into the penalty area for Richard Jepps to header home. Hall got their second from a free kick that Ruggerio netted superbly from 25 yards. Ryan Porter rounded off the half after a driving run from the midfield saw him beat the Star keeper with a good finish. Fifteen minutes from time Star made a come back scoring two goals through Darren's Lamb and Beckett but it was just too little, too late. Tomorrow Star & Garter entertain Burgh Hall.

In Arches first six games they had conceded just six goals, however in their 'local derby' against Gapton Car Hire they conceded four goals to Tom Norman and from R Collin as they lost 3-5. Arches will be looking for a return to form on Saturday as they travel to East Harling in the third round of the Norfolk Junior Cup. A double from Mark Vincent and one each from Dean Harper and R Donovan eased Gorleston Rangers to a 4-1 win away to Golfers Arms.

Defending champions Catfield were made to work for their three points by Great Yarmouth Peelers despite a goal in the first minute. Eventually a hat trick from hitman Chad Pillar and one from veteran striker Paul Thompson and a rare Darrin Scales sealed a 5-0 win ahead of their cup trip to Hempnall Reserves.

After last week's twelve thriller The Sunningdale were involved in another high scoring encounter in a local derby with Carpathians. The Sunny went ahead inside ten minutes through Billy Lawson with a shot from the edge of the box which curled into the bottom left corner however Carpathians came back strongly and equalised with a well taken goal from Lee Griffiths after 15 minutes and were ahead midway through the half when Colin Walker netted. Leon Tomasso quickly squared things before a comedy of errors in the Sunny defence involving keeper, crossbar and defender put Carpathians 3-2 ahead before half-time.

Defences tightened up in the second period until with 12 minutes left P Harvey again leveled the game and the Sunningdale could easily have won the match from then on but a combination of a few good saves from Kelvin Seal and desperate shot blocking and tackling. A draw seemed a fair outcome until another defensive slip four4 minutes from time allowed substitute D Tadgell to hit a winner for Carpathians. Neither side has been in a game with more than a two-goal winning margin this season.

The other two games in the Second Division North were equally as close with a Liam Nelson free kick earning Reedham a very hard earned three points against Hemsby. Richard Barnes opened the scoring for Martham A against the leaders Albert Tavern. It took the second half introduction of Daniel Charlton to level matters before the same player put Albert ahead from the spot. Aaron Clemence leveled the scores before right at the end Charlton completed his hat trick to grab all three points.

The top two clashed in the Division Two South and it ended all square in what is turning out to be a very competitive division. MK United scored through Mark Miller and Ricky Martin with Great Yarmouth International replying through David Motty and Carlos Tavares to keep the sides tied on fourteen points.

Prince Consort opening goal came from the spot from Jamie Miller and the second goal was from Michael Harvey. That was the way it stayed as Gorleston Peggotty's failed to find a goal. Johnny Bowles, Adrian Smith and Danny Webster netted for Great Yarmouth Peggotty's as defeated Star & Garter who like Gorleston Peggotty's are struggling to find goals.

Two goals from Daniel Hurren and one from defender Bevan Self earned Catfield a 3-1 win at Hempnall Reserves and a place in the fourth round of the Norfolk Junior Cup.

With Catfield on cup duty three teams made up ground on the defending champions. Gapton Car Hire move level on points after a 5-0 win against Golfers Arms who sit one off the bottom. Gapton opened the score when Tom Mann sent a ball into the box for Steve Calver to header home. Then Calver returned the favour when his cross was met by Norman to slot home. It was Calver again who turned provider from the left for Ricci Collin to run onto and blast past the keeper. Collin then scored his second after Mann tricked his way past the defence and laid the ball off for a good goal. Danny MacMahon completed the scoring.

Gorleston Rangers moved into third spot after they defeated a Great Yarmouth Peelers side depleted by late call-offs - theme of last Saturday. A hat trick from Dean Harper, two from mark Vincent and one from Adie Sharman completed a 6-3 win although early in the second period two goals from Martin Goulder and one from the evergreen Wally Oldham had made the score 3-3.

Great Yarmouth Town Hall started the game with ten, got to eleven and finished with ten through injury and the extra man eventually told as Bell and Collings scored to earn MK United a 2-0 win and move them to within three points of the leaders. A victory at last for in their ninth attempt for Star & Garter as they defeated Burgh Hall 6-1 M Marshall grabbed a hat trick, Darren Lamb two and Darren Beckett one.

Division Two still produces some close and exciting games as this week Reedham led 3-0 at the break at Burton Arms through Alistair McKenzie (2) and Liam Nelson. Ten minutes into the second half the hosts were level through a Lee Orchison double and one from Gary Davies and turned the game completely on its head when they led through a goal from substitute Neil Mather. Reedham recovered their composure and showed some character to earn a point with a late leveller from John Thorne.

Great Yarmouth International led after four minutes through Luis Paiva at Carpathians and never let the away side settle and it was slightly against the run of play that Geoff Quinn equalised on 32 minutes.

The second half saw a more determined Carpathians after 63 minutes took the lead from a corner converted by David Greasy with his first goal of the season. Carpathians were put under pressure and more frantic defending was needed. The turning point came on 74 minutes when International thought they had scored from a corner but the goal was disallowed as the ball had gone out of play and back in again. From the resulting goal kick the visitors increased their lead when Quinn struck again. Paiva scored his second to set-up an exciting finish but the home side held out.

Star & Garter Reserves improvement continued with a narrow 2-1 win against Prince Consort thanks to goals from Luke Gibbs and Alan Baker. Great Yarmouth Peggottys (Matthew McCreadie) and Hemsby (Danny Philip) shared the points.

Two goals from Daniel Charlton, one each from Ross Charlton and Ben Taveres eased Albert Tavern to a 4-0 win against Gorleston Peggottys who continue to find goals hard to come by despite a mean defence. Martham A failed to field a side against MK United Reserves.

Golfers Arms pushed Catfield all the way in their first round HA Holmes Cup tie before the league leaders squeezed through 2-1 thanks to goals from Chad Pillar and Tony Thompson. Gapton Car Hire goalkeeper Tino Niali scored with a free kick from inside his own half in their cup clash with local rivals Arches. Stuart Finch levelled and Chris Duffy put Arches ahead against an under strength Gapton. Luke Jackson took the tie into extra time but things got worse for Gapton as not did they have manager Tich Leighton playing but they lost their keeper to injury and finished with eight fit men. Arches greater fitness told and Finch and Calver sealed a 4-2 win.

Burgh Hall turned back the clock as some of the best strikers to play in the league over the last decade combined to hit Star & Garter for seven. Ian Barnes grabbed a hat trick with Sean Thompson and Eric McFarlane both claiming two each as they won 7-3.

On the league front Great Yarmouth Peelers took a 3-0 lead through a double from Jason Howell and one from Jamie Hollis. Caister United A pulled one back before the break but it appeared no more than a consolation with Peelers in charge. The second half was a complete reversal as they took over the game and ran out 5-3 winners as Gary Ward (2) Anthony Hall, Neil Bowman and Dean Allard completed a remarkable turn around. Two goals from Dean Harper and one a piece from Keith Vincent, Micky Vincent and Adie Sharman earned Gorleston Rangers a 5-3 win against MK United and top spot, but the real hero was keeper Steve Mann with a string of fine saves.

It was no better for Star & Garter Reserves as they lost by the same score as their first team at Reedham in the Burgess Cup. The home side led 3-1 but Star pulled back to level before succumbing in the second period. New signing Aaron Jones made an impact on his full debut scoring a hat trick, matched by Chrissie Newman with Danny Brown completing the scoring.

MK United Reserves also netted seven with only one in reply from Great Yarmouth Peggottys. Colin Halliday (3) Daryl Hall, A dam Conway, Back and Turner were all on target.

A closer affair at Martham A as with their previous meeting Martham scored first against Great Yarmouth International, built up a good lead and then nearly let it slip at the end. An own goal put Martham 1- 0 up followed by a Mark Holsworth bullet header to make it 2-0. Nelson Madeira made it 2-1 before half time but Martham were first out of the blocks after the break with talisman leading scorer Richard Barnes making it 3-1. Great Yarmouth International then pulled the score back to 3-2 through David Motty before Martin Plane made it 4-2. Matty Packham made it five before Carlos Tavares and Madeira with late goals made it a thrilling finish.

Hemsby were a constant threat from set pieces and so it was no surprise when Dan Philp scored from a corner but Burton Arms responded well and equalised, inevitably from top scorer Lee Orchison. In the second period Terry Whitehouse netted his 11th goal, again from a corner and again Burton Arms hit back only to have a great free kick disallowed. Substitute Vinroy Harrison opened his account for the season before defender Andy Pettit opened his Hemsby scoring account in some style as he picked up the ball just inside the Burton half skipped past two challenges and score a cracker from about 25 yards.

At Carpathians it was Gorleston Peggottys who finally found their scoring touch as Dolphie Gray opened the scoring with a looping volley over the keeper from a great Adam Pope cross, before Carpathians Colin Walker capitalised on Peggotty's keeper fumble. Gray hit his second after some great build up on the left. A few minutes later Ben Hall scored his second of the season when Andy Lilly laid off to fire pass the keeper. From the restart Nathan Derry won the ball, played it to Tom High to score the fourth from 18 yards. In the second period Carpathians played as they have in recent weeks but had only a penalty from Durrant to leave the final score 4-2.

Only one league game and another fight back. The Sunningdale took a two-goal through a corner from Lewis Hannant and a quality flick on from Craig Sharmen and a goal from Jason Witheridge who beat the offside trap to coolly finish. Albert Tavern got back in the game when the prolific Daniel Charlton converted before the break. After a lot of pressure Albert Tavern drew level midway through the second half through Ross Charlton and grabbed all three points when Daniel Charlton completed his hat trick with two late goals.
