1. ROBERT MORTER
The first response I received, from all the
letters that I had sent out to Norfolk and beyond on my initial enquiry, was an
immediate phone call from Robert Morter. How important Robert`s contact proved to be, and in particular,
his mother, Margaret. Robert`s
Father, Raymond Morter (Margaret`s 1st husband), was the
all-important link; and through Mr Morgan our two lines were confirmed. On inspection of the 2 lines, it is clear
we are related, going back to Philip Morter of Hethersett & Elizabeth May
2; both married in Hethersett 5th March 1725. So that makes Robert my 8th generation Cousin, I
think!
Peter Morter Line Robert`s Family Line
On meeting Robert that Thursday evening on
the 18th June 2003, I was also lucky enough to meet Margaret and Geoffrey
Morter, Ray’s Brother. Also there was Patrick, Margaret`s 2nd
Husband and Julia, Geoffrey’s wife.
Raymond
and Geoffrey, also have a 3rd brother Kenneth; and their father was ‘William James Morter’, born in Weston Longville
11th Aug`1895, married to ‘Mabel Maud Coleman`. Geoffrey’s son, Simon has also become
interested in their Family Line.
Both
the "64-Page Dossier" and The Infamous Morter Family
Tree were shown to me; and in return, Rev.Cruscha &
Daphne’s Findings was looked at, by them.
We knew then, we were related; and on close inspection, our two lines go
back to Philip & Elizabeth May 2.
Then it was necessary to check our ‘Noses`, as they tend to be the
distinguishing physical feature of us Morters.
Geoffrey, Robert and myself all agreed we all had ‘The Morter Nose`,
rather straight, rounded and good looking ‘noses`! We all suffer from itchy noses, erratic sneezing and a ‘Morter`
genetic form of Sinusitis, which my sister, Georgina has found a cure! It’s a Food Health cure; so if you
are interested, forget about Steak and Chips etc, and email her on: georgygirl@absamail.co.uk.
Thursday 18th June2003 was a
memorable day, having left Luton early, I had managed to:
1.Visit the 3 main churches in Long
Stratton, Morningthorpe & Hethersett.
2. Checked the Morter records in
Norwich.
3. Met up with Robert and his Family
connections in Wymondham.
4. Returned with a copy of the 64-Page
Morter Dossier!
5. Took Photos and Videoed throughout the
day.
The couple of pints I had, in the ‘Rose & Crown` in
Baldock on the way back to celebrate the day, tasted wonderful!
