The author, Terry R. Shaw,
was born in Mankato,
Minnesota in April of 1945
but he grew up the small town of Litchfield,
Minnesota. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the
Minneapolis College of Art and Design and a
Bachelor of Science from St. Cloud State. He
taught art in Glencoe, Minnesota for twenty-five
years and was a full-time substitute teacher in the Willmar, Minnesota school system for six years before retiring from teaching. He has played drums in various rock bands steadily since 1963, except for his two-year stint in the Army. Two of those bands were with his brother Mick Shaw, the most popular one was called Shaw-Allen-Shaw. His musical career included the recordings of one single, "Maggie's Farm", and two albums. He also just retired from playing drums except for with a group in his church. Terry has written over eighty songs and three other books.
One of the books is a biographical history of his hometown called "Terry Tales". It's full of stories of what it was like to grow up in a small town in the fifties and the birth of rock and roll in that town in his family's garage. It can be found in book stores and on amazon.com at Book Search. The book has a website at Terry Tales. The other two books are like this Elvis one, free on the internet. One is about the Beatles at
Every Little Thing We Said Today and the other is about Buddy Holly at The Buddy Holly Recordings. All the book websites are maintained by Terry's good friend Peter Moorcroft from Derby, England. Peter has a fantastic Holly website called "Hollyville U.K.", which can be found at Hollyville.
Bibliography:
I have a library of books on music which are too numerous to mention and a lot of information came out of them. I also relied heavily on several websites and I will list them and encourage you to visit them. They each have their own special "flavor" and things to enjoy about the King. I would imagine that much of the information their authors collected for the websites also came from many of the books that I have used. We all have the ultimate goal: Getting information out to fans of Elvis everything that is known about the King of Rock and Roll.
