The books I have here mean something to me, at the very least they have kept me amused.
Lucy Ward Montgomery is the author of the much loved "Anne of Greengables" and its sequels. These books are the story of the orphan Anne Shirley and her life on Prince Edward Island and afterwards. There are four "Anne" books, "Anne of the Island" is the third in the series of four. The other three are available from E-text libraries and in particular Mary-Jo's Etexts.
Tobias Smollett (1721 -1771) is one of my favourite authors. The Expedition of Humphrey Clinker is his best novel and was published in 1771. It tells the story of the travels of Squire Bramble and his family through 18th century England and Scotland in a series of richly comic letters, told from the differing perspectives of the travellers. It is full of sharp social observation and finely drawn characters. Recommended.
