Anyone hearing "German Love Song" in
the 70's would probably have been struck by two
things. The first would have been the way in which
Greaves' guitar and Kenny's keyboards worked hand-in-glove
to form the backbone of a truly great instrumental.
The second would have been, "Why the title
?" Pete Greaves himself couldn't have answered
this question until the early years of the 3rd millennium
when Kev Brownhill - a former Roadie / Soundman
with the band - gave Pete a slip of paper with the
original hand-written lyrics to "German Love
Song". Yes, it had actually begun life as a
song rather than a pure instrumental. Pete had originally
written the lyrics in English which his German mother
had translated for him. Pete took one glance at
the slip of paper which Kev had handed to him and
the lyrics came flooding back to him word for word.
Lucky for us, eh?.
