Mel Lewis

..

As strange as it may seem, Mel got in touch with us on the same day as the reunion gig, Weird Eh.

Mel and Pete go way back to 1972, when they played pop harmony stuff in a band called Champagne. They did covers by Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper. At that time there was loads of good stuff in the charts. Anyway, they did a 3 month stint at a night club called the Roxy Tanzi Bar or Roxy Tansi Bar, Bremmerhaven, Germany and Blackwater Park were local to this club. Blackwater Park's bass player, sold his Fender Jazz bass guitar to Mel so that he could come over to England and buy a Dan Armstrong or Vox Bass guitar. Because of the American Air Bases in Germany, Gibson and Fender guitars were cheap in Germany, and English stuff was expensive. When they left Germany, they sold some of their Amps, and bought new ones when they got back to England.

Mel still has that guitar, which is pictured above.

In 1972 - 73 Mel and Pete join Keith Gotheridge to form Pugma Ho III.

Mel now lives in Melbourne, Australia and plays in a band called Bodymotors, who are about to release their 9th album. (the bands been together 13 years).

Good luck Mel.

..

Mel sent us a recording that Pugma-Ho III did back in 1973, this is the Peter Greaves, Mel Lewis and Keith Gotheridge lineup. Thanks alot Mel, the best present we've ever had, never knew it existed. 6 tracks, all crackers.
