tgs photos

21/02/04

Shots with the school featured, or in background. There's a lot of stuff on this page, it will take up to two minutes to load or longer since I've added photos since this message. So enjoy it, slowly Ta.

Outside the TGS foyer, after the switch to comprehensive with the new sign for TSA. Featured in the photo is Elizabeth Brown (as was), Suzanne Ball (as was) and Susan Whitethorn (as was), standing with Mr. Cadwallader. Mr.C. is still at the school I believe he's head of the history dept.

The ladies above, have asked me to point out that they are nowhere near the age of forty yet. Thank you.

This picture was taken in 1972 at the end of the 2nd year, when 2G (Mrs Beringer's form) was disbanded. Ian has a vague recollection of it being taken by Georgina Bennison, but he may be wrong. It shows all of the boys in the form (there was a separate photo taken of the girls, but he never had a copy). He doesn't recognise everyone in the picture (the original photo was literally the size of a postage stamp - I've blown it up a bit here, but it hasn't helped much). From left-to right: the back row is Keith Bray (I think), Christopher something, unknown, unknown; the middle row is unknown, Phillip Yarnall, unknown, unknown; and the front row is Neil someone (used to live near me, and we were mates for a short while), Ian Napier (yours truly!), David (?) Paul Dudzinski, Neil Taylor.

Last day of the 5th form (June 1975), out by the back of the tennis courts. Grounds men's shed's in the background. This one shows Fiona 'Fizz' Hayward, Jacqueline Smith, Chris Murphy and Beverley Bolton. Also view of the "old block" on the right

Jacqueline Smith! Her family moved to Norfolk from the Isle of Wight.  Wonder what she's doing now!? In the background the gravel circle for the high jump. In the distance the netball courts and far distance the spinney. With the Tech. drawing mobile on the right.

Fizz giving Graham Grix what for.

Lindsay Williams and Phillip Yarnall Ian Napiers legs, shoes and his famous 'went everywhere with him since junior school' briefcase . Tennis courts in the background, now much upgraded.

Graham Grix ... nice trousers Graham!

Where's that lunchbox?

Top: Andrew Watson, John Bourke, Martin Leverington, Steve Myhill.

Middle: Timothy Cianci, James Pye, Graham Sillett, Karen Saberton, Robert Pedley, seated.

Interesting note, Graham is getting rather over familiar with Karen, but they subsequently got married and she became a teacher at the school. She is now sports liaison officer, developing TSA sports college status.

one of many mobiles, this was form 5G's 1973-74, but the pupils are a mix of 5G and 5L.

Except for the two onlookers to the right.

Fran Bird has sent me a list of the people, so if you don't want your name up, step out of the picture.

L-R. Angie Ellis, Chris Woods, Vivian Lee, Frances Bird, "Tony" Towers, Margaret Allison, Susan Heard, Joy Harvey, Jackie Edwards, James Pye, Stuart Sayer, Jo Bird, David Schofield, Paul Day, Graham Bunn, Anna Sugget, John Bourke and Sally Richley. The person at the window still remains unknown.

Fran, you've got a great memory! Thanks for your help.

Kate Press, formally of 1L (Mrs. Lincoln) has contacted me, to inform us of the identity of the "onlookers" on the right, they have been identified as Michael Johnson and Mark Wyatt. ( Mark, sadly now deceased, he died in an accident outside the Lamb in the 1980's). It's never good to hear bad news but I don't get many emails from female ex TGS pupils, so thanks for writing Kate.

Stuart Ferguson and James Pye, inside quadrangle 1974

It is with sadness that I heard of Stuart's death, he died from pneumonia during treatment for cancer, at the end of last year(2000)

Karen Saberton, inside quad 1974

Same tree/bush nearly 30years later, sorry about the finger in front of the lens.

A/ Inside quadrangle 1979

B/ Surely, every pupil at tgs has stood or sat there.

Same tree different angle, new tennis courts in background.

C/ Last day, July 1979, never this messy when I was a lad.

And the people in the pictures A-C, Ian Youngs, Trina Watson, Frances Mancini, Judith Hurrell, Timothy Moll, Ian Sutton, Julia Dack, Joanne Browne, Mary Ford, Phillip Llewelyn, Janet Watson, John Reading, Danny Tungate, Helen Rowsell, Anna Kirkham, Sandra Ames, Sally, Mandy Whitpen, Carl Fisher.

Martin Leverington, background unknown. He still lives in Norwich.

Glenn "Ratty" Stevenson, origin of nickname unknown. Approaching 5L's mobile, having entered the school from the Laundry Lane entrance next to the caretakers house. To his left an area where I help to create a wildlife pond, I was too young to legally leave after the exams so they had to do something with me.

Here is the pond, this picture taken 27th April 2001

L to R, Valerie Day, Sue Callis, Margaret Allison, Karen Saberton, Steve Myhill and John Bourke.

Kathleen Watson, John Bourke, Sue Callis, Margaret Allison, Valerie Day, Steve Myhill, Andrew Bentley and Karen Saberton (now Karen Sillet).

This area was outside 5L's mobile near the biology labs and has now been returned to grass. Shame about the cherry tree.

Noel Morris. And behind him the soon to be wildlife pond.

Richard Ball, Andrew Bentley and Stuart Ferguson.

 I now work with Richard.

Stuart Grimes and Jackie Ruston.

"some guys have all the luck"

We think she is also sitting on the stage, to the left of Chris Fuller, during the NUSS meeting.

Paul Thompson, possibly a shot of the mobile was being taken when Paul wandered into frame.

Richard Ball (upside down), Sue Callis, Noel Morris, James Pye(doorway) and Margaret Allison (at window).

Seeing this picture explains a lot about Richard and proves he used to have hair.

Malcolm Debbage and Sue Callis. "put your ties on"

Andrew Bentley holding up his Chemistry apron (why?) and Martin Leverington.

Exiting by the Caretakers house entrance Laundry Lane.

Further down just visible on the right was the entrance to the "old block" which opened into a small foyer and then through into the sixth form hall.

same entrance 26 years later, who nicked the gate?

David Crossland(with briefcase)and Paul Leared.

In the background part of the "new block"

Steve Myhill and Paul Strickland, taking part in the annual sports day. These pictures were taken in the far corner of the field, deep inside St Andrews Secondary School territory, TGS pupils didn't go there and return unscathed often. Both school were united in 1975 as a Comprehensive. The picture to the right was the second throw, the lack of audience this time shows where the first discus landed.

Steve is now a TV scriptwriter/author living and working in Australia and Paul is a Doctor working in west Norfolk. (If either of you read this send us something for our readers page)

Jane Piper, taken on sports day.

Nigel Brennen, Andrew Bentley, Kathy Naylor, Malcolm Debbage and Joanna Bird.

Stuart Grimes (without the mystery lady), Steve Myhill (showered HOPEFULLY!! and changed ), James Pye, Stuart Ferguson, Graham Sillet, Martin Leverington and Steven Land.

Thanks to Paul Thompson for his sterling camera work 27 years ago.

And to my wife who supplied photos A,B and C.

Should bring back memories the Gym 2001

The lingo lab room, now gutted.

Extended music room, this used to be the staff room. What was our library is now the staff room.

More culture, this room was the art room in my day.

Chemistry lab, changed now more individual tables. The school is at the forefront of micro chemistry, small kits for chemical experiments, using a safer format.
