The village of Steventon dates from medieval times, with several buildings still remaining from the 14th and 15th centuries. In the 14th century, the village was known for its cloth industry, producing a third of the district’s output of finishing trade. The Ginge Brook and other streams were used to wash the fleeces which were then laid out on the village green to dry.
Whether you are visiting the local area, to explore the history that surrounds us, or you need a quiet and relaxing place to stay while here on business, Orchard House can provide you with the welcoming atmosphere that will make you feel at home.
The most striking feature of the village is the mile-long Causeway that runs through the heart of the village. Its origins are still a mystery, but it is thought to have beenfor a raised flood path, used by monks to reach Steventon Church from Milton, or even the Abbey at Abingdon.
Steventon was the railway stop for Oxford in Brunel’s time and still has a number of public houses offering good food and refreshments to visitors. We
