Bacton Village

Bacton village is on the North Norfolk coast, about twelve miles east of the major resort of Cromer and fifteen miles north of Norwich. The beach is sandy with some shingle, very spacious, and never overcrowded even on the hottest of summer days. As well as with young families, the beach is popular with walkers, who may go a long way in either direction, and at night with sea-fishermen. Bacton has two useful shops, a post office and an amusement arcade; there are two pubs both of which serve food within easy walking distance of the beach and cottage, and two more, both of which also serve food, a half mile walk along the beach.

The North Norfolk coast has many problems with erosion, as the nearby village of Happisburgh will show. But Bacton is safe; a defensive promenade runs the entire length of the coastline. As well as coastal walks there are beautiful walks to be had inland, in Bacton Wood and at nearby villages such as Honing, on the Weaver's Way. There is a wide range of activities for both children and adults: as well as the beach children may enjoy the crazy golf in Mundesley, or the model village and fairground rides in Great Yarmouth. Adult entertainment ranges from seasonal seaside variety on Cromer pierhead, through cinema in Cromer and Norwich to visiting stately homes such as Blickling, owned long ago by Anne Boleyn. Furthermore, the cottage is within easy driving distance of the Norfolk Broads, with all the rich possibilities of wildlife and boating which they provide.
