The cottage is at the end of a small group, known collectively as the Warren, built in 1847. The cottages were occupied originally by fishermen, then later by coastguards. The sound of the sea, a few yards away across a sandy lane, is often loud at night. Upstairs there are two rooms, a double and single bedroom. The downstairs is much larger; it has living room, dining room, kitchen, shower/toilet, and twin bedroom with reading-room and entrance lobby. The cottage has efficient central heating, and there is a gas fire in the sitting room.
The upstairs double room has a four-poster style bed (see illustration). The single upstairs bedroom contains both a single bed and a cot. It has also a dolls' house and a fine view of the sea. Please note that the stairs, as in many older properties, are both steep and narrow, and unsuitable for disabled or very elderly people. They are however equipped with a stairgate for the safety of young children.
The sitting room has two sofas, a chaise longue and a small television, which receives the main terrestrial channels. There is also a radio, but there is no cd player or hifi. The kitchen has cooker, fridge, and microwave but there is no dishwasher, nor is there a washing machine, as the cottage relies on efficient but small-scale tank and soakaway drainage systems. The dining room is cosy and comfortable, and has a selection of board games and books. As the illustrations below reveal, none of the living spaces of the cottage are large, but they are many. There is plenty of space for children to play quietly and for adults to read or relax separately from a main group.
To the rear of the cottage is a fairly secluded mature garden, secure for children
and dogs. There is a yard to the front, which opens
into a larger yard shared by the other cottages, all of which are set behind a strong flint and mortar wall. No 1 The Warren has a
single parking-space. There is parking for further vehicles in the village.
