Angel Guts 6 : Red Flash | 1994 | Takashi Ishii | Continuing in the vein of his previous violent and often surreal erotic thrillers such as Shinde mo ii and Nude no Yoru, Takashi Ishii directs this labyrinthine tale of sex and murder. The film centers on Nami (Maiko Kawakami), who is taking still photos on the set of a porn flick. The action before the camera — a middle-aged lecher raping a schoolgirl — sparks bitter memories of a similar incident in her past. Muraki (Jimpachi Nezu), the editor of the film, notices Nami's discomfort. Unfortunately, Muraki bares a remarkable resemblance to Nami's assailant; she flees from the set in a terror. She first seeks comfort in the arms of her lesbian bar maid girlfriend, until she learns that her lover is playing around. As a result, Nami seeks comfort in a bottle and wakes up the following day naked in a love hotel. Having no memory of the tryst, she panics. When she discovers her one-night lover in a pool of his own blood by the bed, she freaks. The following day, she runs into Muraki and tells him the entire sorry tale. Together, they try to piece together Nami's blood-soaked lost weekend. — Jonathan Crow | IMDB; All Movie Guide | |

Angel Guts 7 : Night is Falling Again | 1994 | Takashi Ishii | 5.0 | The disappointing seventh film in this popular series of rape-thrillers, which began with Jokousei Tenshi No Harawata (1978), is once again directed by its creator, Takashi Ishii. The plot concerns Nami, the wife of a narcotics cop murdered in the line of duty. Nami is surprised to find that her husband, rather than being buried with honors, has been accused of involvement in organized crime. To clear his name, Nami goes undercover but is soon the victim of a brutal gang-rape which causes her to attempt suicide. She is saved by a cop named Muraki (Jinpachi Nezu), and they begin to work together to solve the case. Ishii's film is dark and moody, with a cruel twist ending which is nevertheless completely predictable. — amg - Robert Firsching | IMDB; All Movie Guide |
| Assault! Jack the Ripper | 1976 | Yasuharu Hasebe | Yasuharu Hasebe's BOKO KIRISAKI JACK (aka ASSAULT: JACK THE RIPPER) is as mean as they come and twice as effective. I have no moral objections to this material because it is what it is, and what it is is a tour de force of violent cinema with not a single cell of poltical correctness to muddy its intentions. A strong-willed woman coerces a weak man to rape and kill with her. The man's obsession leads to the downfall of the relationship. The sexual violence is on a level you haven't seen before if you haven't seen any Japanese Violent Pink films, the production values are high, the performances are amazing and the jazz score is exceptional. Director Hasebe also directed the excellent RAPE, the satire RAPING!, the solid RAPE 13TH HOUR and the more well known BLACK TIGHT KILLERS. BOKO KIRISAKI JACK is his crowning achievement, a film that is violent, erotic, funny, perceptive and always entertaining. The best Violent Pink film ever made. | IMDB | ||

Bloody Beach | 2000 | In Soo Kim | 5.3 | In the spirit of the new-age slasher, this Korean flick is telling about a bunch of young internet chatter decide to make an off-line meeting in a beautiful beach. Little does they know a banned ex-member of the group, called Sandmanz, start to kill them one by one. The result is `Bloody Beach', a gore-fest. Bloody Beach a.k.a. Haebyeoneuro Gada is the Korean attempt to make a decent slasher movie. The result is seemed quite well. Although Bloody Beach comes in the post-Scream era but the director seem very influence by the 80's slasher flick. There's many reference from that era and that makes Bloody Beach as a fine combination of 90's and 80' flick. Actually, there's nothing new here and there's routine and cliché, and the plot holes is quite abundance, but since this is a splatter gem, we can't complaint. As a Korean movie, Bloody Beach also has a bit different approaching in the story line rather than the American counterpart. The dramatic tense is build well. However I must warn you, because the pace is slow-moving, especially in the first half. But after the second killing, the pace move tolerable and able to build the fright rhythms it needs. The gores are somewhat strong and still in the cheesy concept but it nicely blend and make me do not much complaint of it. If you like a slasher with different ambience, you should check this. An Asian splatter is definitely rare to find, especially the nice one. | IMDB |

| The Bod Squad | 1974 | Ernst Hofbauer; Chin Hung Kuei | 6.9 | Five Western girls are kidnapped by Chinese pirates and sold to a brothel. While they are being trained to become prostitutes. This movie rocks. Very attractive 70's chicks fight it out against evil chinese guys. This movie is highly entertaining and makes little sense. I simply loved it. Boxer's Omen | 1983 | Chin Hung Kuei | 6.8 | As if Jodorowsky met Coffin Joe in Hong Kong and decided to collaborate on a supernatural martial-arts action film. Filled to the brim with visual overload, mystical drama, Buddhist symoblism and dark supernatural atmosphere, this film follows the life of a boxer embroiled in a vengeful feud sparked by the brutal, nearly fatal beating of his brother in a sparring match. He is overwhelmed one night by a vision, an omen as it were, which ultimately leads him towards the realization of his own destiny that takes him along a path of spirituality and a quest for the power and inner peace that may free his lineage from an ages old curse. This scenario is used as a launching point for what is surely one of the most bizarre, chaotic & excessive Hong Kong flicks ever made. Most of the movies effects are obviously low budget but the rather excellent filmwork and audaciously gonzo, over-the-top nature of the imagery far than makes up for any budgetary restrictions. The indelibly weird vibe that permeates the film is, in fact, partially due to it's low-fidelity nature. Those familiar with the "Chinese Ghost Story" and similar fare will be familiar with the themes conjured up by these supernatural Hong Kong action flicks and may know what to expect. But those who are not should get ready for a pretty wild trip down a road full of wild twists of logic that lead through glowing supernatural vistas, magical terrorist attacks, flying eyeball creatures, and wild clashes with demonic entities and manifestations of all sorts. A crazy little nugget of a film that could even be an accidental masterpiece. At the very least, a unique cinematic experience that's probably like nothing else you've ever seen. Virtually impossible to track down and not, as far as I know, offically available. In spite of this, fans of offbeat & mondo cinema should do whatever they can to track this gem down. | IMDB |

| Horror of a Deformed Man | 1969 | Teruo Ishii | 6.1 | This film brings together elements from a variety of Edogawa Rampo works, including The Human Chair (Ningen Isu), The Stroller in the Attic (Yaneura No Sanposha), The Twins (Soseiji) and the title story, and fashioned them around an amnesiac young doctor's search for his missing father. The father, a Dr. Moreau-esque deranged scientist, lives on an island where he has created a private dominion populated by horrible hybrids of man and beast, the by-products of a wish-turned-obsession to cure his disfigured wife.Symbolic of The Horror of Malformed Men's refusal to surrender to plausibility or narrative verisimilitude is the central figure of butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata as the unhinged doctor, scurrying across the rocky island coast in a crablike fashion, Ishii's jump cuts making his choreographed movements seem even more erratic. Dressed in a skintight silver dress, his mad eyes peering through a shroud of long black hair, Hijikata delivers his dialogue in a procession of gutteral intonations. Spastic at one moment, brooding at another, his performance is the polar opposite of star Teruo Yoshida, who wisely tones down his acting to the point of seeming to sleepwalk, a very appropriate decision given the film's overall ambience. | IMDB | |

| This Transient Life | 1970 | Akio Jissoji | This movie has the best cinematography i have seen in years. It is as dense, perfect staged and lit as the opening sequence of Orson Welles' "Othello" during the whole movie. The actors are superb casted and the story resonates. - Furthermore it has got an astonishing soundtrack: a combination of western harmony (classical music) mixed with sounds heard in the japanese No-Theater; it perfectly sets accents and structures the time and space(themes). I was mesmerized the whole time through and am very thankful to Ronald Domenig, the initiator of the "Art Theatre Guild" retrospective at the Austrian Filmmuseum for showing and personally translating(subtitling) it. Lemon Popsicle | 1978 | Boaz Davidson | 5.4 | Bentzi, Momo, and Yuda'leh are three teenage boys growing up in 1950's Israel, which is not much different from 1950's America if you believe what you see in the film. Of course they are obsessed with one thing - sex. Bentzi is interested in the beautiful Nili, but she prefers his friend Momo. Meanwhile, while Bentzi is working delivering ice to people he comes across a voluptous nympho. For some reason he leaves his job and gets his friends, who are promptly invited inside and divested of their virginity in an explicit softcore sex scene. Momo goes first, then the obese Yuda'leh. Before Bentzi can have his turn the nypho's sailor boyfriend suddenly returns from the sea and chases the boys away, Yuda'leh being forced to run away naked. The boys next visit a prostitute and are serviced by her in turn, the experience causing Bentzi to vomit. With all this experience under his belt Momo seduces Nili and impregnates her. He disowns her when she makes this known to him, leaving it to Bentzi to borrow money and sell his bicycle to get money for an abortion. | IMDB |

Fraulin Doktor | 1969 | Marcello Aliprandi; Alberto Lattuada | 6.6 | After watching the rather sloppy WW1 spy thriller, Madam Lili (1969)starring Julie Andrews on tv this afternoon, I suddenly thought I had seen a far superior WW1 spy thriller. All I could remember was that it was produced by Dino De Laurentis. It only took a short search on IMDB to find Fraulein Doktor. Once I recognised the title the memories came flooding back. It is, for its time, a reasonably well crafted story revolving around true events such as the death of Kitchener and the German offensives of 1918.It also has a female spy who is much more believable than Julie Andrews! As with other reviewers the first and strongest memory was of the well produced battle scenes and of men and horses in gas masks. If you have an interest in war films and particularly WW1 it is a film well worth seeing if you have the opportunity. -IMDB- Transferred directly off a crisp adapted scope uncut 16 mm print, never ever available on video, this morbid spy flick features Suzy Kendall as a W.W.I Mata Hari. Espionage, lesbianism, and the sickest trench warfare scene ever make this a must. -cinefear- | IMDB |

| Occasional Work of a Female Slave | 1973 | Alexander Kluge | 2.7 | That rarest of movies: a left wing comedy which doesn't hang itself up in questions of 'realism' but does involve itself very closely with the everyday flux of political and social pressures. Alexandra Kluge (the director's sister) plays a young housewife and mother who works as a part-time abortionist; her cynical complacency gives way to a bright-eyed 'activism' when she's forced out of the job and starts waging a one-woman war against the authorities, the bosses, and the tyranny of the family. Kluge charts her hopeless campaign through documentary (an unblinking look at the fact of abortion) and witty fiction alike, his methods recalling both Brecht and Godard; everything is informed by a kind of wry humour that keeps the plot in perspective without tempering its immediacy. It's hard to think of another film that's as honest, relevant and yet not disillusioned as this. | IMDB | |

Raw Deal A Question of Consent | 2001 | Billy Corben | 7.0 | A documentary about the circumstances during a party at a University of Florida fraternity that led up to what may or may not have been a rape. I'm disappointed that there are not many comments on this page, since this is a film which demands to be debated, whether it be the simple questions of "was it/wasn't it rape" or even just "should this film be shown?" Personally, after seeing the film I have no doubt that King was raped, and that Mike Yarhaus is a dangerous, disturbed man at large. And I've probably seen as much of the evidence as the State Attorney could be bothered to look at. What is shocking as that the film features interviews with people who, I think sincerely, believe that this was an act of consensual sex. While I am convinced this was rape, the film doesn't let me acquire that conviction easily - not one participant in this film gives a good account of themselves, and the differences of opinion serve to produce a worryingly reminder that the question of consent is a misleading one. Remember all that "no means no" stuff that was misinterpreted as suggesting that if she doesn't say "no", she means "yes"? Now we get situations like this. King did not say no, and though she (occasionally) puts up a fight, it is pretty lacklustre. She even goads her assailant and taunts him. She doesn't scream or cry, yet this is still rape, because it is based on a pre-meditated assumption that she is there to have sex with, that she is "a white trash crackwhore" as she is constantly called. It also illustrates that rape is a power struggle. King was too proud, and too wasted to put up an attorney-friendly struggle. The next time I give my wallet to someone with a gun, I expect the court to recognise that I did not willingly give up my cash - I was threatened, but recognised that resistance was not worth the risk. I could argue so much about this movie, but I just saw it and these are some initial responses. Its a powerful, enraging piece, and either not as impartial as it hopes to seem, or blessed with villainous assailants who don't mind revealing their unpleasantness on camera. By the way, the potentially exploitative inclusion of the footage taken by the frat house of the rape is fully justified. What was dismissed as proof of consenting sex and passed around as a harmless sex tape can now be seen as proof of the opposite, reclaimed and set in context. Be ashamed. Be very ashamed, frat boys. | IMDB |

Blood Ceremony | 1973 | Jorge Grau | 4.7 | Now here is a classic example of great Spanish made horror. Directed by the brilliant Jorge Grau, this is a nifty version of the Elizabeth Bathory tale involving a vain and upnoxious countess (played by former Italian model and beauty queen of 1947, Lucia Bose), and her pervert husband, who like to play vampire at the expense of the townsfolk. Grau's political attack is subtle in it's horror, but grows in intensity from scene to scene. This is the completely uncut version, not the butchered Legend of Blood Castle video you used to buy for $4.99 in K-Mart. Has all the nudity, throat slitting, and torture you've come to love and expect from a Cinefear video -cinefear- While by no means a classic, this slow-moving, but atmospheric Spanish/Italian co-production from director Jorge Grau (of LET SLEEPING CORPSES LIE fame) is at least a well-made and mature attempt at gothic horror.Lucia Bose (very good, considering the uneven English-language dubbing) stars as the legendary "Blood Countess" Erszebet Bathory, who killed "610 Nubile Virgins!" and bathed in their blood to stay eternally young... and to impress handsome nobleman Karl Zimmer (Espartaco Santoni), who seems more interested in bedding the innkeeper's daughter Marina (Ewa Aulin) than anything else. Zimmer eventually helps out the countess by seducing women, slitting their throats and letting the blood leak out through a hole to fill a bathtub downstairs. Of course, the townspeople eventually catch on, and the bad Countess finds herself in a Edgar Allan Poe-ish situation at the conclusion.I'd be lying if I said the film didn't lose me from time to time (American pre-released cutting may be the culprit), but it is still fairly interesting, has an authentic period setting (good sets, costumes, great-looking castles, lots of fog, etc) and is a bit more restrained (the most graphic gore is a scene when falcons eat another bird, which was probably real and not faked) than I expected. Worth a look, but I would give the Hammer film COUNTESS DRACULA (1970) with Ingrid Pitt the slight upper hand as far as Liz Bathory movies go. -IMDB- | IMDB |

If anything is lacking, the ending seems a bit rushed. I recommend the VHS version that Something Weird released a few years back. It is struck from an immaculate print and contains the European version of the movie-this includes a brief topless shot (unfortunately not of Barbara Steele but she does emerge from her bath in a subsequent tantalizing scene.) The Alpha Video DVD release is taken from a rather scratchy print and is minus the nudity but is available for less than $6.00. This Italian shocker would be a welcome addition to any Euro film collection. | IMDB |

| Hasta el viento tiene miedo | 1968 | Carlos Enrique Taboada | 8.8 | It'd seem to be a cliche -haunted school, scared girls in uniforms... but 'Hasta el viento tiene miedo' is more than that. With some good actresses, but more than that, a smart script and a clever direction, it has unexpected moments and really scaring scenes. Highly recommended --IMDB usercomment-- This movie is a very good one, you have to check out Mr.Taboada´s directing,It´s ageless and even if its mexican oldstyle movie making, you can still feel the scary vibes he was aiming for. The movie centers around a group of girls that because of disobeying some orders stay stranded in their college all summer long, one of them starts having some weird dreams and theres a ghost rounding that college with a dark past. There´s a strip tease scene that can show some lesbian shadows on the girls, you have to see it yourself, spine tingling and horror at it´s best on this 70´s horror story. --IMDB usercomment-- | IMDB | |

Patrick Lives | 1980 | Mario Landi | 5.1 | Mario Landi's "Patrick Still Lives" has to be one of the sleaziest exploitation sickies ever made in Italy. It's filled with incredible amount of nudity, sex and masturbation.Gianni Dei plays Patrick,a young man who is sent into coma as the result of the random act of violence. He lies in his bed looking into space for the most part and killing people with his telekinetic powers. The script is pretty bad,but the gore is mildly shocking.Still the scene where Maria Angela Giordano has a long metal pole pushed into her vagina is a real jaw dropper...Another offensive murder scene involves a woman killed by her own dogs:they chase her all over the grounds before biting, licking and chewing her around the genitals, eventually killing her.Like earlier Mario Landi's sleazefest "Giallo a Venezia"(1979),"Patrick Still Lives" is cheap, shoddy, misogynistic and gleefully disgusting. It's just a pure exploitation film,so you should enjoy it as such.Highly recommended,if you like sleaze and extreme gore. -IMDB- This is an extreemly ugly movie by the Italian master of good taste, Mario (Giallo A' Venenzia) Landi. This fucked up remake of the Australian film Patrick (1978), has our bedridden telepath causing vile sexual distruction in a clinic for mental disorders. One lovely scene features horror heroin fave Maria Angela Giordan (Buriel Ground) having a fire place poker shoved through her vagina untill it emerges through her mouth! All this in full view of the camera. You'll think very differently about penetrating pussy after you see this. Featuring lots of nude Italian chicks, who are built to kill! After watching this, if you don't agree that the Italians are the masters of the horror film, you must be dead! In Italian. -cinefear- | IMDB |
| Pets | 1974 | Raphael Nussbaum | 4.1 | One of the guilty pleasures of the 70's drive-in movies was the runaway/hitch-hiker movies. Some sexy mujer dressed in a skimpy halter top and short-shorts or a micro-mini with her hip cocked and her thumb stuck out, hitching a ride while cheesy, hippy-dippy 70's music plays on the soundtrack. In the sexy hitchhiker sweepstakes, Candace Rialson edges out Misty Rowe in "The Hitchikers" mainly because she went on to have a minor exploitation career and a bit part as a co-ed who tries to seduce Clint Eastwood in the "Eiger Sanction", while Misty Rowe went on to, uh, "Hee Haw". Like "The Hitchikers" this film (Rialson's debut) is cheerfully amoral and completely directionless. Rialson's character ties up a middle-age lech who offers her a ride and rapes HIM (that'll teach him) while her partner-in-crime throws his dog off a cliff. She then moves in with a lesbian artist but is too dense to realize it until they end up in bed together. Of course, she can't resist also getting it on with a random guy who breaks into their house, so the jealous lesbian shoots him. She runs away and finally ends up on a leash in some rich weirdo's private zoo (obviously this was NOT a feminist film). There's not as much sex as you'd expect, but Rialson is topless or seriously under-dressed most of the movie. -imdb- Psychosexual madness from director Ralph Nussbaum which features Candice Rialson as a hot piece of ass who lives out some fun and horrific experiences while thumbing on the sunset strip. The piece de resistance involves some psycho who keeps gals locked up like caged animals in his basement. -cinefear- | IMDB | |

| Spiritism | 1962 | Benito Alazraki | 4.5 | Classic piece of Mexican horror cinema, essentially their version of the classic short story The Monkey's Paw. A family asks Satan to help out with their mortgage. Unfortunately, it takes the death of their son to bring the needed cash. Then, they get the brilliant idea to ask for their son back. Care to guess what he looks like when he returns from the grave? Cool, atmospheric film, complete with a silly seance and a severed hand crawling around. -cinefear- I bought this DVD from half.com for $1.88 and the shipping was more than that. I am a fan of movies like the Brainiac and all the wrestling horror flicks so when I read about this on a fansite, I thought I'd give it a go.I propped the Mintek on my lap, leaned back and watched...then fell asleep. I woke up, backed up to the last scene I remembered, pressed Play...and fell asleep. The next time I woke up, I made a strong cup of coffee, then another because the first tasted so good, went back to the Mintek, pressed Play...and fell asleep.Maybe this is one of those weird tapes like in the Ring, only instead of dying in seven days you fall asleep in 7 minutes. What I remember was a bunch of Mexican people talking about Ouija boards with dubbed voices. There didn't seem to be much action...maybe it happened when I was asleep. Somehow I don't think so.I recommend this movie to anyone who is having trouble sleeping. -IMDB- | IMDB | |

| Emanuelle and the Porno Nights | 1977 | Bruno Mattei; Joe D'Amato | 4.7 | Often credited as a Joe D'Amato film, this was actually mainly filmed by Bruno Mattei (this movie also appeared under the moniker 'Emmanuelle and the Porno Nights'). The premise as such concerns the ever smiling Laura Gemser guiding us through the modern world of erotic entertainment while she frequently and inexplicably changes clothes. We are treated to scenes from strip shows, fertility rituals, and even a 'Taxi Mother' who hires her daughter out as a prostitute. Even by 70's standards this is tame stuff indeed. The 'erotic shows' are little more than nudity and when a scene does begin to get racy we cut straight back to Laura Gemser (still smiling) who will guide us into the scene. There is some fun to be had though. -(SPOILERS)- One scene involves a girl in the window of a Holland strip joint, after stripping for the crowd she offers one lucky fella inside for something a little more intimate, he keenly obliges leaving he stunned wife standing by the window to watch. More amusement comes from Laura Gemser's (did I mention she smiles a lot?) linking scenes. As I touched on before, she moves around her home, talking and randomly changing outfits. In her closing speech the strap of her top comes away clearly exposing a breast, 'oops' she says cheerfully, replacing the wayward strap. The oddest scene comes in the form of an erotic magic show, in which a woman is thoroughly inspected by the crowd to make sure she's female, and is then given male genitalia by the magician. If you're looking for erotic cinema then look elsewhere. Though a few mates and a few beers might make this little romp a pleasant experience. | IMDB | |
| Emanuelle and the White Slave Trade | 1978 | Joe D'Amato | 5.0 | While attempting to interview an elusive gangster, photojournalist Emanuelle notices a man pushing a girl in a wheelchair through the airport. Later, in another country she sees the same man and the girl up and walking. Intrigued, she does a bit of investigating and uncovers an organization dealing in the buying and selling of young women. She goes undercover into the organization but finds that getting out again could cost her her career...and her life. This is a quite enjoyable little flick, though not as ingenious as Emanuelle and the last Cannibals. Unfortunately, it does not offer the same levels of gore and violence but somewhat compensates this shortcoming by excessive amounts of soft-core and an even more terrific sound-track by the same composer. The "safari"-scenes and the fight in the bowling-alley are unforgettable. Recommended to all fans of 70's sleaze but perhaps not to the general audience. | IMDB | |

| Julia Innocence Once Removed | 1974 | Sigi Rothemund | 4.7 | Julia is a young girl who is trying desperately to lose her virginity. One of the unwritten rules for sex films is to depict sex as something enjoyable - perhaps it is a guilty pleasure and some punishment may be afoot, but a pleasure nonetheless. Another is that a once initiated sexual encounter always goes ahead - the punters loath prickteasing. This film dares touching these rules. The story resolves around an upper middle class family during the summer holidays. They are desperately trying to have a good time, and the emphasis is here on "desperately", because they are just not very at good at it. Sex is the only thing that overcomes their boredom, but even that rarely suffices. This lethargic lot is very hard to excite - the only time anyone got really upset was mother Hildegard when her husband's mistress told her at the family diner table that she was now sleeping with her teenage son as well. Make no mistake: this is a softporno and nothing else, it does not have a message of any kind. But it is much less predictable than the average genre flick and that makes for much more interesting viewing. Note: the UK release has an attempted rape scene (Pauli on Ivanna) cut, which is a bit of a shame as it explains the family's subsequent trip to Italy. | IMDB | |

Jaberwalk | 1976 | Romano Vanderbes | 4.6 | This is an insane Mondo style documentary that attempts to explore the changing climate of the 1960's. We'll explore pornography, drugs, suicide, stupidity and various other things that pass themselves off as culture. One of the more entertaining mondos, This Is America is well worth a look. Focusing on the bizarre activities of the American people it "documents" phenomena from the Indianapolis 500 to satanism and from peculiar sexual practices to drive in religion.Although some of the documentary material does not seem that real, every minute is entertaining.
