Jamie returns to the aftermath that he fled following the violent murder of Sarah, one of a group of six close friends, forcing them all once again to confront the reality that faces them, his return is met with mixed reactions. But Jamie knows something his friend's do not... His strange behaviour begins to unsettle the group, as what has been buried creeps back to haunt them. To Phil, his best friend, Jamie's sudden please for forgiveness seem nothing more than self-indulgent regret for a secret that only Phil understands. As Jamie's guilt intensifies, he insists on trying to make Phil believe what he has seen - he knows the truth about the murder - but Phil has his own ideas about the whole affair. Jamie's despair leads him to Sarah's father, a local priest - the only person Jamie believes can help him - but it soon becomes clear that no matter how hard he tries. he cannot make people believe a truth that only he is prepared to see. As he desperately attempts to come to terms with both his past and his foreseeable future, the fragments of his friends' truths and beliefs show him that what seems to be true is not always real, and what is real should not always be believed.
