Getting Even 1976 Harry Kerwin 3.9 A Rapetastic Rollercoaster of Movie! This movie, like many low budget movies I've seen from the seventies, revolves around rape. Rape, rape, rape. I don't see how they find time to pack more rape in there, what with all the raping going on, but that Kerwin fellow manages to find room. I don't know about you, gentle reader, but personally I don't find movies drenched in rape to be my cup of tea (Rape Squad excluded of course). If you can look past the giant heaps of rape going on in this movie, you may find a couple funny, if not intentional, lines. At one point the cops are questioning some drunkard that they have picked up that claims to have witnessed one of the thirty-six HUNDRED rapes that goes on, but he won't talk until they give him booze. So finally the main cop gives him a drink, which the witness happily guzzles down. This makes one of the cops wonder out loud, "how can he drink that stuff?!" to which the main cop replies, "If you grow up eating shit, you think it's ice cream." I don't know about you, but I can tell when I hear good dialogue, and that was some GOOD DIALOGUE. There's also a funny part where Chris Mulkey, our "hero" of the movie, gets assaulted by the Rape Gang with an ice cream cone to the face! How savage! RAPE! What starts off as a simply game turns more dangerous as Fabio seeks new thrills to inflict upon his woman. He forces her to degrade herself and whore herself while he watches from a safe distance. This perverse game climaxes with the death of both Fabio and Flavia and detective De Paul is giving the assignment to discover who killed the two lovers. Director Mario Landi’s attempt at the Giallo genre is a failure in terms of building mystery and suspense. Only the police seem to be confused as to the killers identity as the viewer saw the killers at the start of the film. What Landi looses in mystery he more than makes up for with some of the most brutal violence and sex EVER put upon the screen. The film is awash in so much blood and twisted sex that you will need a hot shower after viewing this shocking, sick film. IMDB

Hardgore 1974 Michael Hugo 5.9 One of those rare films combining graphic violence with explicit sex (hence the title), HARDGORE is a strange picture that's nearly a genre unto itself. Or at least one right up there with twisted roughies such as FORCED ENTRY. It begins with horny young Maria being checked into the Fox Hollows Sanatorium. Her legal guardian is told by Doctor George not to worry, as "Uncontrollable nymphomania, combined with masochistic tendencies, is not nearly as uncommon as you may have thought." Lots of potential for exploitation here, and it gets started right away as a nurse leads Maria to her room where therapy begins with a tongue bath and some groovy tunes. The nurse takes a liking to Maria, and warns her not to stay in such a terrible place. She won't explain exactly what is so terrible about it, but does offer to help the girl escape later. With all the wisdom of her young years Maria ponders, "Why did I ever agree to be put into this place? This is really a shitty place to be." Finding a collection of dildoes, Maria amuses herself to sleep. Awakened by a scream later that night, Maria opens the door to her room to find her nurse friend squirting blood from a gaping neck wound. Running naked through the hallway Maria is pulled into a room full of speedy camera zooms, odd symbols, and orgiasts wearing nylons over their heads. Untroubled by the murder Maria jumps right in, and as she fellates one stranger his prick is snipped off by unseen hands and his choadstump shoots blood all over her face. Maria passes out, only to be brought around later by Doctor George and a new nurse and told that she has been running around madly, disrupting the entire hospital. Her new nurse, Lucy Douchenfarb (no kidding), applies Maria's "new treatment": a vibrator hooked up to what looks like a car battery covered with buttons and dials. As Maria shares the tool with her therapist someone turns the power up on the box and things start to smoke, Lucy flopping around holding the sizzling schlong inside of her and moaning, "Oh! It's ruined!" After all of this excitement Maria goes back to bed. She's awakened again, this time by some sinister chanting: look out! a Satanic coven is holding a ritual meeting in the day room! Lucy is seen drinking from a magic grail full of Kool Aid, and a guy in a demonic Kabuki mask urges everybody to git it on. Maria finds herself being led into the gangbang, and goes with the flow as the film dances with scratches and spots of faded exposure and the psychedelic guitar kicks in again. "Nirvana!" Kabuki Mask proclaims. Furry mounds are kissed and rubbed, and some spunk gets tossed around (or was that another scratch on the filmstock?). After the devil bathes Lucy in his two-gallon load he directs her toward the "ultimate orgasm": getting it from behind while locked into a guillotine, the executioner frosting her ass as the blade comes down and her head rolls. Maria comes to tied to a bed, with Dr. George telling her that she's had a terrible attack. She asks for Lucy, but is told that there is no one there by that name and is instead introduced to Nurse Cindy. Shot full of drugs Maria goes to sleep yet again, but she soon wakes up determined to find out what's askew at Fox Hollows. During her snooping around Maria spies the Doc telling his buddy Ben that she's "about ready for the supreme sacrifice" while stumbling over his lines about some solemn consecration of the Satanic arts. Because, as the Satanists all know, "Maria's nymphomania, combined with her masochistic tendencies, will put her into a state of climax that will be highly titillating to all of us." At that moment Maria gets all twitchy and conveniently knocks over something noisy. Captured, Maria is taken to "The Room," which is filled with tortured-looking corpses and bloody sheets. Doc was right about Maria though, as after a short squeal she gets turned on and goes for his meat thermometer as Ben screws a dead body. Despite the good lay Doc decides that, "As your punishment Maria, I'm just going to have to leave you here and you can think about what a bad little girl you've been." A talking skull calls her back to consciousness (as, of course, Maria has passed out again), and the dead chicks in the room all come to life. But instead of a carpet-munching zombie massacre, sparkling dildoes on strings fly in and spew Elmer's all over Maria. Cut to Nurse Cindy serving Maria some more aphrodisiacal Kool Aid before giving her a good rubdown and a serious tongue-lashing. Kabuki Mask starts up with the chanting again, and for some reason Maria dumps the rest of the elixir into the toilet and pisses on it, determined not to become another Lucy. Not determined enough to resist another orgy however, which she enters and promptly swallows the demon's prong while Ben fucks a couch. When told that her time has come for the ultimate Nirvana Maria goes apeshit, grabbing a gigantic cardboard axe and hacking the Doctor and his frustrated pal to death. Everybody screams, and Maria gets the life beaten out of her with a skull, her body left to be used as a candleholder. The end. No credits, no director, no nothin'. Even consulting an Alpha Blue Archives essay by Michael Rorro, the Internet, and a synopsis by Frank Henenlotter (the film is available from a number of distributors, and at least Henenlotter does say that Doctor George was played by "John Seeman") failed to turn up much more information than that. Hardgore is pointless, often stupid, and very cheesy, but because it's filled with sex and gore it's a worthwhile watch indeed. (And it is pretty unusual for a film to showcase both blood and sperm, perhaps because most of the market for such a genre may be making their own videos instead.) Hard to tell if they started out with one style or plot and added either the porn or the carnage to flesh out a lousy screenplay, but the producers ended up with a film that delivers everything except solid acting, a good-looking cast, a well-written script, a believable plot, and an attractive setting.
