Engineering Red 1993 Andrei Yi Long before net shock sites like orgish and rotten, people who wanted to be shocked had to make do with Mondo films (Mondo means world in italian the country that made most mondo shock films,so the mondo genre is formed of real world horror docu's).Well just got through watching a recently unearthed vhs by one of All Things Horror's Russian members Disc so huge thanks for finding it. The film is Engineering Red (1993) by Andrei Yi and consistes of mainly found footage of operations and other unsavory items like various conjoined twin footage including a filmed seperation also lots limb cutting & brain surgery thrown in for good measure. All wrapped around artsy footage of medical equipment and a woman in various dance poses.Sadly any plot or naration was lost with it being Russian language only, only its written chapters being in English. There's a fabulous ten minute opening, where the half naked go go dancers have vegetables thrown at them. One of the tales features a female photographer who tortures a male model. Another has a female burglar (Cathy Howard) caught by the house owner. The craziest involves a nerd hiring a blond call girl (Sue Bond) in pursuit of a menage-a-trois with his pet lizard; and there's a endearing misadventure with secret agent Lindy Leigh (Maria Frost) who does topless safecracking. Exorcist: The Beginning 2004 Renny Harlin 5.1 Father Lankester Merrin thinks that he has glimpsed the face of Evil. In the years following World War II, Merrin is relentlessly haunted by memories of the unspeakable brutality perpetrated against the innocent people of his parish during the War. In the wake of all the horror he has seen, both his faith in his fellow man and his faith in the Almighty have deserted him, and he can no longer honestly call himself a man of God. Merrin has traveled far from his native Holland in a desperate attempt to try to forget and escape all the evil that he had witnessed there. While currently in Cairo, Egypt, he is approached by a collector of rare antiquities and asked to participate in a British archeological excavation in the remote Turkana region of Kenya. They have unearthed something extraordinary and unusual...a Christian Byzantine church dating from the 5th century, long before Christianity arrived in East Africa, and in inexplicably perfect condition--like it had been buried immediately after it was completed. The collector wants Merrin, an Oxford-educated archeologist, to find an ancient relic hidden within the church before the British do. Interested, Merrin agrees to take the job. But beneath the church, something much older and malevolent sleeps, waiting to be awoken. When the archeologists start excavating, strange things begin occuring, and the local Turkana tribesmen who were hired to work refuse to enter the site. Things only get worse and worse, ultimately resulting in madness and death. Merrin watches helplessly as the atrocities of war are repeated against another innocent village--atrocities he had hoped and prayed never to see again. The blood of innocents flows freely on the East African plain, but the horror has only just begun. In the place where Evil was born, Merrin will finally see its true face. IMDB; DVD Empire

Eyeball 1975 Umberto Lenzi 5.4 Although mostly known for his bloody jungle-set cannibal films (Cannibal Ferox; Mangiati Vivi) and the splattery zombie-adventure Incubo sulla Citta Contaminata, Italian filmmaker Umberto Lenzi also made a number of interesting thrillers, including this engagingly incoherent giallo about an eyeball-stealing killer. The slayer's handiwork is first revealed when a female member of an American tour group is stabbed to death in Barcelona, and a teenager on an amusement park ride is murdered in a similar fashion the following day. Coincidentally (or perhaps not), a businessman named Mark Burton (John Richardson) finds out that his wife, Alma (Marta May), is in town, and remembers finding her unconscious once back in America with a human eyeball lying next to her. More murders follow, with a peasant girl, a lesbian named Lisa (Mirta Miller), and her lover (Ines Pellegrini) all attacked by the raincoat-clad killer. After yet another attack, Mark falls under suspicion, and must discover the killer's identity in order to clear his name. Bloodier than most of its contemporaries, the film presages the subgenre's spin into logic-free sensory assault with the following year's Dario Argento classic Profondo Rosso and features a star-studded cast including Martine Brochard, Jorge Rigaud, and Raf Baldassarre, as well as Argento regulars Tom Felleghy and Fulvio Mingozzi. Fangoria Blood Drive 2004 Various; Rob Graydon 5.5 With this, Fangoria's first ever DVD, the horror magazine has unleashed the winners of its amateur short film contest. After rooting through legions of submissions, Fangoria presents the winners—seven vignettes of blood-soaked narration, ranging from the surreal to the ridiculous. No matter how different the shorts are, the creators all have one thing in common—they're on a DVD. Awesome! Cool! Wicked! The Hitch ========= It's a dark night. A man drives alone down a country road. Over the radio, he hears the reports of a serial killer on the loose. Perhaps acting against his better judgment, he stops to pick up a female hitchhiker. As the two drive and talk, cue the creepy music that something scary might happen soon. Needless to say, one of the two is revealed as the killer—but the twists don't end there. One of the longer offerings on the disc, The Hitch is well done and—in amateur standards—well acted. Things do get a little hammy at the end. Drew Rist, the director, keeps the blood flowing, even up to a wacky climax. A Man and His Finger ================== This dialogue-free short documents the adventures of a nameless adolescent who accidentally slices his finger off while butchering a head of lettuce. Soon, thanks to a mysterious sentience the detached digit has gained, the two become friends. The boy takes his severed finger out for walks, sits with him at the lake, and even watches movies. But when the finger longs for some companionship, is the former owner willing to keep making sacrifices? For these homemade movies, it's good to have no dialogue, especially no dialogue spoken by non-actors. Which is probably why A Man and His Finger is my favorite of the bunch. It's only music and action (with a real dumb scream thrown in). Basically, you got a guy walking around with a finger, but sheesh if it ain't amusing. Obviously drawing from the work of director Sam Raimi, creators Patrick Rea and Ryan Jones toy with POV shots and life-infused appendages. And it all ties up nicely at the end. Inside ===== This visual hodge-podge of a short tells in abrupt, spastic sequences the story of a demonic possession, sourced in an abandoned part of an old house, which leads to the multiple deaths of a young girl's friends. One of two style-over-substance pieces, Inside succeeds in unloading some decently frightening scenes (the hanging and the maggot-ridden bathtub corpse spring to mind) in super-kinetic editing. But that's about it. Shadows of the Dead ================== The companion piece to Inside, Shadows of the Dead is an even choppier, throw-wacky-images-at-the-audience-as-fast-as-possible short, dealing with the threat of zombies. A poor doctor succumbs to the terror of zombie infestation and is soon ensconced in his own nightmare. This is probably the most visually innovative of the bunch. While not telling a straight arrow, easy-to-follow narrative, creator Joel Robertson earns points for some whiz-bang shots, particularly the effectively creepy final shot. Mr. Eryams ========== A freelance investigator from the Vatican is hired to snoop around an alleged haunted house. The owner, a young single woman, has reported multiple ghost sightings. The investigator is hot on the trail of the specters when things get weird. The case may not be a simple ghost story, and the woman may not be who she appears. Creator BC Furtney tries to play it straight, "Tales of the Crypt" style, telling a coherent story then lobbing in a twist at the end. His climax, while bloody enough, fails to stick the landing and gets too confusing. But kudos for filling the screen with blood and, amazingly enough, some nudity. Disturbances =========== Another relatively dialogue-free short, Disturbances brings to us a young woman who may or may not have killed her children. Her crimes will eventually come back to haunt her, though. The film itself is rather uninspiring, save for some excellent screwy footage of freaky-ass kids! Man, kids are scary. Song of the Dead =============== The second light-hearted entry, Song of the Dead is all of four minutes long and eats up its first minute with the crawly expository telling of a zombie plague. We then meet a hiker who gets bitten by one of the undead. A bit of stumbling and blood spewing later, and the hiker-turned-zombie belts out a musical number about craving human flesh. He is soon joined by the zombie that bit him and a duet ensues. There's not much to say about Song of the Dead. It's goofy and funny, but the song is poorly written and repetitive. IMDB; IMDB

Friday the 13th Part 10 : Jason X 2002 James Isaac; Jim Isaac 4.6 Popular bogeymen Jason Voorhees terrorizes a group of nubile astronauts five centuries into the future in this sci-fi update of the Friday the 13th franchise. Early in the 21st century, Jason (actor/stunt man Kane Hoddar, filling the role for a fourth time) is experimented upon by army technocrats who hope to turn his supernatural invulnerability into a military application. Most of them meet a swift and bloody end except Rowan (Lexa Doig), a beautiful functionary, who traps the killer in a cryogenic stasis chamber. Unfortunately, she takes a machete blow in the process, gets frozen herself, and wakes up on a spaceship in the year 2455. The earth has long since been rendered uninhabitable, but the survivors include a group of archaeological students headed by Professor Lowe (Jonathan Potts), who hopes to make a quick buck by selling the corpse of the historical serial killer. The kids re-animate Rowan with the help of nanotechnology. Little do they know that a mere thaw job is enough to resuscitate Jason and reawaken his bloodthirst. Soon, the comely students and their space-marine protectors are being dispatched one by one. Help arrives in the form of a holographic chamber and an android named Kay-Em 14 (Lisa Ryder). Soon, though, Jason himself gets an upgrade just as the spaceship is getting ready to self-destruct. The tenth installment in the long-running horror series, Jason X was the first new entry to appear in almost a decade. In fact, the previous film, 1993's Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, was one of two installments whose titles erroneously contained the word "final." Brian J. Friday the 13th Part 5 : A New Beginning 1985 Danny Steinmann 3.6 The murderous spirit of Jason Vorhees lives on in this horror sequel, although the plot hinges on the mystery of whether the killer's body actually survives. Opening with a nightmare prologue in which Corey Feldman reprises his role as Tommy Jarvis, the boy who killed Jason in the previous installment, the film jumps forward several years to when a teenaged Tommy (John Shepherd), haunted by visions of Jason returning to life, moves into a group home for mentally disturbed kids. Almost as soon as he arrives, Tommy witnesses the death of Joey (Dominick Brascia), an overweight, annoying boy who is hacked to death by psychopathic patient Vic (Mark Venturini). Although Vic ends up safely behind bars, other bodies begin to turn up — more than 20 by the end of the film. Tommy's own violent streak, displayed when he lashes out at a fellow resident, makes him a suspect; he even doubts his own sanity. But as the bloodshed continues, Tommy finds himself allied with Reggie (Shavar Ross), the grandson of one of the home's employees, in a desperate bid to survive the carnage and find out who the killer behind the hockey mask really is. The producers of the Friday the 13th series actually planned to end it with Friday the 13th — The Final Chapter, but the box-office success of that film paved the way for the series to continue. — Brian J. Dillard All Movie Guide; DVD Empire; IMDB; Amazon UK
Friday the 13th Part 6 : Jason Lives 1986 Tom McLoughlin This impressive entry in the popular horror series brings back the relentless killer Jason Voorhees, this time as a supernatural zombie. Tommy Jarvis, now played by Thom Matthews, accidentally resurrects Jason when he impales the killer's corpse with a metal pole during a lightning-storm. Numerous murders follow, beginning with Tommy's friend (Ron Palillo) having his heart torn out of his chest by the zombie killer. Implicated in the crimes by a mean-spirited sheriff (David Kagen), Tommy is freed from jail by the sheriff's daughter, spunky Megan (Jennifer Cooke). The cast converges on Camp Crystal Lake, which has been renamed "Camp Forest Green" by superstitious locals, in time for Tommy to send Jason back to the bottom of the lake, if only temporarily. Harry Manfredini's score is among his best, and the makeup by Martin Becker, Gabe Bartalos, R. Chris Biggs and others is outstanding. Cooke makes an appealing heroine as Megan, although Mathews' Tommy has lost the interesting mental disturbances of previous entries and becomes just another bland hero. Tom McLoughlin's direction is effective, and the film has a memorably funny supporting turn by Bob Larkin as a grumpy drunken caretaker. Alice Cooper sings the title song, "He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)". Although no classic, this is a solid horror film with a witty script and engaging characters. Jason would rise again to face a telekinetic teen in the disappointing Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood. — Robert Firsching All Movie Guide; DVD Empire; Amazon UK
Friday the 13th Part 7 : The New Blood 1988 John Carl Buechler; John Carl Buecher Directed by makeup effects artist John Carl Buechler, the seventh in the long-running, grisly horror series was far from the last, although the climactic fate of its antagonist would seem to suggest a final send-off. Lar Park Lincoln stars as Tina Shepard, a teenager with uncontrolled telekinetic powers. As a girl vacationing at Camp Crystal Lake, Tina killed her abusive father with the use of her mental abilities. Years later, seeking intensive counseling from manipulative, greedy psychologist Dr. Crews (Terry Kiser), Tina agrees to participate in a radical therapy that takes her back to Camp Crystal Lake. Unfortunately, Tina's psychic skills rouse the slumbering Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) from his watery grave and, in typically bloody fashion, the vengeful spook begins dispatching the randy teenagers partying in a house nearby. As Tina attempts to stop Jason's slaughter with the use of her powers, the mass-murdering ghoul encounters his toughest opponent yet. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood was often referred to by series fans as "Jason vs. Carrie," an apropos reference to Tina's strong similarity to the main character in the horror classic Carrie (1976). — Karl Williams All Movie Guide; DVD Empire; Amazon UK
Friday the 13th Part 8 : Jason Takes Manhattan 1989 Rob Hedden 3.6 The worst in a string of increasingly pointless sequels to Sean S. Cunningham's crude slasher hit, this installment provided clear evidence that the "slasher" subgenre, already creatively dead, was no longer financially viable. This time around, unstoppable supernatural thug Jason Voorhees — imprisoned at the bottom of a lake by his telekinetic foe Tina in the previous film — is reanimated yet again after being goosed by an underwater electrical cable, freeing him to stow away aboard a shipload of standard-issue obnoxious teenagers en route to Manhattan. The title ultimately proves a bit of a cheat, since the majority of Jason's homicidal hijinks take place aboard the ship until the film's final reel, during which he pursues a handful of survivors through the streets of the Big Apple. Thanks to heavy MPAA cuts, the mayhem is more subdued here than in any other films of the series — splatter fans primed by the previous chapters' copious bloodletting will be left high and dry. Despite a very amusing "teaser" trailer that suggested that the film might be a semi-parody, writer-director Rob Hedden and company play things tediously straight. — Cavett Binion All Movie Guide; DVD Empire; Amazon UK; IMDB
