Tony Adams enlisted into the 16th/5th The
Queens Royal Lancers in 1986 as a Bass
Trombonist. Following four years of service in
Germany with European tours including Berlin,
Vienna, Scandinavia and Monte Carlo, he attended
the 1991 Pupils Course at the Royal Military School
of Music, Kneller Hall, where he won both the
Cassells Prize and the Worshipful Company of
Musicians medal for best all round pupil.
After a further period of service with his parent
band and the newly formed Hussars and Light
Dragoons Band, he attended the 1995-97 Bandmasters
course. On graduation from this course, winning
numerous awards including the Choral setting prize
and the Jaeger Trophy, he was awarded a second
Worshipful Company of Musicians medal for
best all round Student Bandmaster and a degree from
Kingston University. His first appointment as
Bandmaster was to the Normandy Band of the Queen's
Division.

|
Jim has been involved with the music industry
for in excess of 23 years as a trombonist and
bassist. He has been lucky enough to have performed
all over the world, and has played all of the major
concert venues in the UK, including the Royal
Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, Birmingham, The Royal
Concert Hall, Glasgow, The Bridgewater Hall in
Manchester and the Waterfront Hall, Belfast. He has
been actively involved with his current Band as
their MD for around 13 years, shortly after joining
as a trombonist. Since then he has seen standards
rise, culminating in the bands first ever
recording. Jim has also put his hand to arranging
and composition for the band, giving them the
opportunity to perform programmes with a unique
twist.

David Edwards - Cornet and
Trumpet

Having played with The Shropshire Youth Brass Band,
The Shropshire Yeomanry Band and Big Bands at the Local
Palais, David served as 1st.Cornet in the Royal Artillery
Mounted Band and Principle Trumpet in the Symphony Orchestra
for 6 years where he studied part time at the Guildhall
School of Music and Drama. This was followed by 9 years with
the Band of the Life Guards and then some years free lancing
with the following orchestras; The Royal Philharmonic, The
London Symphony Orchestra, The Handel Symphonia, The
Brandenburg Consort and the Parley of Instruments. At the
moment he is working on a sequel to his C.D."Sound the
Trumpet beat the Drum", a history of military music played
on period instruments and organising a Tudor trumpet
ensemble which is shared by the Royal Armouries in Leeds and
The Tower of London. Recently he could be seen on Channel
Four on Saturday nights demonstrating miltary musical
instruments from the past.

Lawrence Wootten - Saxophone and
Clarinet

Lawrence Wootten is from Oxford and started playing
the recorder at the age of 6. He got his first clarinet at
the age of 9 and followed that up with a saxophone at 16.
Although always a keen musician, playing in various concert
bands and orchestras in Oxfordshire, he studied Botany at
the University of Wales and worked as a research
microbiologist before making music his full-time career. He
joined the Waterloo Band of the Royal Green Jackets in 1994
and the Band of the Blues and Royals in 2002, where he plays
in the concert band, mounted band, orchestra and leads the
jazz quartet. He also plays with and manages a ten-piece
soul and blues band - The Soul Traders. At a recent Binfield
Concert Band concert Larry played "I only have eyes for you"
by Harry Warren who was second only to Irving Berlin for the
number of songs he composed. Another concert he played Days
of Wine and Roses in Binifield Concert Band's Combo

Jonathon Bowden Cornet &

Jonathon is from Nelson, Lancashire and is 28 years
old. He started playing cornet when he was 11 and played
with several brass bands and his town orchestra. He joined
the Royal Marines Band Service in 1990, studying trumpet and
music theory. He then joined the REME Band at Arborfield
after joining the army in 1997, where he currently plays
with the wind band, big band, soul group and leads the brass
quintet. He arranges music for all of these groups. In the
past he has been involved in teaching at BYBA & TYMBA
week long courses, where he enjoyed working with youth
bands, teaching and general playing. His most recent work
for the band being a great version of "I Only Have Eyes for
You" played at our last Christmas Concert. At this concert
the band will be playing his arrangements of "Tambourin" of
James Galway fame and "Concierto de Aranjuez" by Rodrigo
which was featured in the film Brassed Off.

Tony Whennell One of our Saxophone soloist Tony started his
musical career in the army on the clarinet and later
saxophone. He went to the Royal Military School of Music at
Kneller Hall in his early years, where he received a
thorough musical training, after which he joined what is now
"The Blues and Royals". He has played at many Court and
State occasions. Particular military spectacles include
Trooping the Colour on the Queens' Birthday Parade, Beating
the Retreat on Horse Guards Parade, the Garter Ceremony at
Windsor Castle to name but a few. He played regularly with
the Victor Silvester Orchestra and recorded with them on
their last nostalgia series. He played for the pantomime at
the Theatre Royal Windsor for more than twenty years and has
featured with his own band in four episodes of the "Soldier
Soldier" TV series.

Peter Lister - Clarinet

Peter Lister joined the 60th Rifles Band, in his own words,
"Not knowing a trombone from a clarinet." He attended the
Royal Military School of Music Kneller Hall where he was
awarded the prize for best all round pupil. Over the years
he has played with, amongst others, the Reading Symphony
Orchestra, Newbury Symphony Orchestra and various operatic
societies. In addition to being one of our soloist, he is
principal clarinet with Woodley and Beech Hill Concert
Bands. Although having a preference for classical music we
have twisted his arm in the past to play that evergreen
"Stranger on the Shore" by Acker Bilk

Ashley Peters - Flute

Ashley Peters. Presently a flautist in the Band of the
Blues and Royals, Household Cavalry. He started playing the
trumpet in school at 13 years of age with the intentions of
joining the Royal Marines band service. He spent two years
at the Royal Marines School of Music Deal. Unfortunately
there were no vacancies for trumpet players so began his
musical career with the flute at the Royal Military School
of Music, Kneller Hall followed by a posting to the Band of
the Blues and Royals. Ash played Schindler's List at our
concert in the Summer of 2004.

Phil Lazenbury is one of our Directors of Music, he also
conducts Binfield Concert Band and has spent over 25 years
in the music industry. He studied at the Royal Military
School of Music Kneller Hall and currently is Corporal Major
in the Lifeguards where he plays the piano, clarinet and
violin, although we must hasten to add not all at the same
time! In addition to being the principal clarinet in the
Lifeguards Band he is also the leader of the Lifeguards
Orchestra and leads on piano in the Lifeguards Combo. He is
currently conducts Ercol Furniture Brass Band. Ercol Band
have the enviable privilege of playing at the turning on of
the Christmas Tree lights in Trafalgar Square
