Dear Potential New Member

Re: Binfield Concert Band - Potential New Member Information

Binfield Concert Band's aims are to:

  1. raise money for charity from performances
  2. encourage people who normally would not consider learning to play a musical instrument to do so.
  3. bring music into the community and reinforce and strengthen our community spirit

In our first nine terms of operation we have taught over 60 budding musicians. Our Junior Members put on two concerts a year. In the future we hope to teach as many as 120 musicians formed into four bands. The band draws on military band styles which is achieved working with our partners from the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Band, RAF Central Band, Blues and Royals Band and The Life Guards Military Band who provide the tuition.

There is also our professional band who perform currently two concerts each year in the summer and approaching Christmas.

The main base for the band is 2 Oakmede Place Binfield. At Oakmede Place in addition to individual tuition rooms for each member we have a games room and quiet room (where members can do their homework or study) Membership is open to all within the region from Year 3 upward.

We are fortunate to have a very supportive board of trustees consisting of Reverend Bill Meyer of Binfield and Diane Gare Headteacher of Binfield School.

The beginners group lesson lasts for 30 minutes.

The fees each term for existing members reflects the support provided by members and their families. Those that support the organisation are charged significantly lower prices for all our services than those that don't. Those that don't support us get charged fees in line with those of musical organizations that do not expect any support from the members or their families. We do understand that there are those who may not have the time to help sell tickets prepare for concerts or cannot attend concerts but they in turn must appreciate that we cannot provide for them the services of BCB at a subsidised rate.

The Annual Membership Fee is £15 non refundable.

The tuition fees for beginners in a group (30mins) are as follows:

Instrument Hire £ Nil (if available) for one term Tuition Fee £ 50

NB The availability of instruments is limited.

For existing experienced members on a one to one basis (20mins) the costs per term can range from

a maximum as follows

Instrument Hire £ Nil (if available) for one term Tuition Fee 10 Lessons @ £ 12.50 - Total £125

or a minimum as follows

Instrument Hire Nil (if available) for one term Tuition Fee 10 Lessons @ £2 - Total £20

In addition to the individual lesson all experienced students are given a free group lesson of 30 minutes per week.

Application forms are on the Web Site which are hopefully self explanatory. Application Forms
