choice once they've discovered real nappies. Although disposable
tampons and towels have their place, you might like to consider... |

a plastic sanitary towel liner lasts indefinitely. The plastic components
litter our beaches, causing harm to coastal and aquatic wildlife. 75% of
blocked drains are caused by flushing sanitary protection.

Tampons are not sterile,
they leave fibres behind which can attract bacteria and they are
associated with the sometimes fatal toxic shock syndrome.

The average woman in the
'developed' world uses about 10,000 such items during her life.

There are lots of options you
might like to try: |

Biodegradable brands eg Health
Matters Flushaway range from Waitrose. |

Washable sanitary pads have
come a long way since the 1970's. Today's pads do up with poppered wings and come in funky stay-dry fleece fabrics. There
are many handmade brands available so you can support British Work At home
Mums when you buy. Used pads can be stored in an icecream tub
under the u-bend until washday. |

Instead of tampons, you might
like to try a Mooncup or Keeper. These catch menstrual blood
internally and you simply remove them, rinse them out and replace.
The Mooncup is a soft silicon cup with a stem for removal. |
