The art of N. R. Hills (or Nigel Hills as he's known when
not in his creative mode) is difficult to describe, as it has gone through numerous changes over the years. After graduating from the Chelsea School Of Art, he spent many years as a professional illustrator, creating several covers for books by such authors as Robert Aickmann, Philip K. Dick and Clifford D. Simak.
His work underwent a huge change in the late 80's when he was introduced to computer graphics and he was to use this new-found technology to create artwork for some of the most highly regarded CD-Roms of the era, including the award-winning 'Ghosts' featuring the veteran actor Christopher Lee.
The new millenium brought further changes to his work when events in his personal life caused a re-assessment of what he wanted to be doing with his art. Although being a professional artist for many years, he had always shunned paint (and particularly brushes) and only when he started using oils with the blade did he appreciate the sheer joy of paint, although he had always enjoyed the work of painters such as Eugene Carriere, Richard Schmid, John Blockley, Russell Mills, Brangwyn, Solomon J. Solomon, J W Waterhouse, Joseph Crawhall, Dean Cornwell, Hughie O'Donoghue, Beksinski, Arthur Melville, Chu Teh-Chun, Euan Uglow, and Andrew Wyeth to name just a few. This website (all the content of which is under copyright of the artist N. R. Hills) is just a brief introduction to the work of this artist as his 1st series of oil paintings, 'Beauty In Decay', nears completion. | ||
