J.R. de Silva and Colonel Henry S. Olcott created the Buddhist flag in 1880 in Sri Lanka. In 1952 the World Buddhist Congress adopted it as the International Buddhist Flag. It has now become the symbol of the unity of all Buddhists and of universal peace
The colours of the flag represent:
Blue – Loving Kindness and Compassion
Yellow – The Middle Way
Red – the Blessings that come to those who practise
White – the purity of the Dhamma, which leads to liberation from suffering
Orange – the development of Wisdom
