FIELD STUDY INTERNATIONAL

originates from a decision made in 1993 by David Dellafiora, Eammon Kirwan and Benedict Phillips to reclaim the negative spaces in their Curriculum Vitae, i.e. the gaps. By reclaiming these gaps time is understood as being whole and continuous, this is called the Field. Thoughts formulated from data from the Field are termed Field Study. Activities stemmed from Field Study become Emanations and group emanations resulting in events are known as Manifestations, returning full circle back to the Field.

In 1997 Field Study International split in two; one half emigrated to the sun with David Dellafiora and became FSI (Australia) while Benedict Phillips took the other half to Leeds in the North of England and established there the Field Study Northern Academy.  The Australian branch is thriving under the creative spirit of David who not only initiates a great quantity of Mail Art projects of his own but organizes groups of art students to respond to Mail Art invitations.

I
In 1995 I met David Dellafiora and joined Field Study International. Since then all my Mail Art projects are conceived as Emanations which ensure that there are no unfilled gaps in my curriculum.

Annual Report

If you also want to reclaim the negative spaces between art and life join Field Study International. Everyone is welcome to become a member, irrespective of their particular art practice, and contribute to the Field Report. You need to send 100 pages in landscape format, size A5 (width 21.0 cm x height 14.8 cm with 2 cm blank on the left side for the binding) of flat artwork documenting an art action or activity of any kind, individual (an emanation) or involving a group (a manifestation).
The deadline every year is the end of December of that year and every participant gets a copy of the report.

Please note:

Interested people need to get in contact with David before sending pages for the Annual Report because places are limited.
