Welcome the Sherwood Forest.

The very name Sherwood Forest is magical, for this was the legendary home of Robin Hood, the outlaw hero whose adventures have enthralled generations, but whose true origins lies shrouded in the mists of time. To walk amongst the majestic oaks of Sherwood offers a timeless magic.

Sherwood Forest in modern times is valued for its unique ecological importance. In the British Isles broadleaf woodland was once very common, but is now a threatened habitat.

For centuries ancient oaks and the natural sandy heathland of the forest have evolved in a distinct and fascinating ecosystem.

In spring the area is full of birds feeding themselves and their young on insect life that thrive there. In autumn with its marvellous colours the forest floor is rich in fungi.

This is a very special corner of England with a heritage as green as it is legendary.

Start your exploration at the Visitor Centre. On-Site exhibitions illustrate the Robin Hood legend and the importance of the forests in the modern age. Browse in the shops or pause for refreshment at the Forest Table Restaurant. Enjoy!
