OUR COLLECTIONS

Pete Bolton's model boat collection

Pete says:

"I have been interested in ships and boats from an early age.  I did a short stint in the Royal Navy, and was stationed on Whale Island, Portsmouth, at the Gunnery school.

"I own around twenty ships from small coasters like the 'Clyde Puffer' to the Merchant ships of the line such as Brockbank Blue funnel. Furness withies.  Among my collection are:-

  • 'HMS Starling', a black swan class sloop of the Second Battle Group based on the River Mersey from 1943 to 1945.  Her captain was was the famous Johnny Walker. He and the ship were responsible for the sinking the most German submarines of the second world war. 16 in all.

  • I own a Thames sailing barge. and many Naval ships from Admiralty tugs to modern type 42 frigates.  All are powered and remote controlled.

  • At the moment I am building a five hatch merchant ship of the Blue funnel line called 'Africa Star'. She is half built and around 5 feet in length.

"I am a member of the Bridlington Model Boat Club and sail there when I can."
