Shannon White

Current address: Wallasey, Wirral
Re-enacting since June 2003
Re-enacts as 1940s Civilian schoolgirl
Profession: 21st century schoolgirl!

My Daddy (Mark) said I could come one day. I like sleeping in tents, and I like the dresses they wore many years ago - even though in winter your legs get cold. I sometimes take part in the 1940s fashion show that we do, and I wear some of my new dresses for people to see.

I like riding on the trains and when there are fairground rides at the events we go to. At events, we stay in tents and often have to cook our own food.  I like eating my dad's fry-ups of sausage, bacon, eggs and mushrooms with plum tomatoes .....my favourite!

I like the fact that other families bring their children to our events.  In the evenings, when the public have gone home, we play in the fields with other friends.  My best friends are Patricia and Victoria Stanworth from our group, and Amber Minney from Allied Assortment.

My hobbies are tap dancing and ballet.  Since I do this on Saturdays during term time, I can only go re-enacting during school holidays.

For a twelve year old, I have so many things to do.  I like history at school, so being in a group like this helps when I get homework about the 1940s.

I sometimes take my Raccoon puppet to events.  Daddy does a little show with him for other children that makes them laugh.

For the 2009 season I will be bringing a selection of childrens toys and books to events.  I have a bean-nosed fluffy rabbit that was Daddy's when he was a baby (although Daddy's not THAT old!), some Enid Blyton books, Dr Doolittle books, and some other games.  I also have that horrible gas mask that children had to carry everywhere - I hate it, because the box is heavy when you carry it all day, and the sting cuts into the side of your neck!
