Admiral Thierry d'Argenlieu was responsible for the adoption of the
cross of Lorraine by Free France in 1940. He wrote to de Gaulle that
the Free French needed their own cross to stand against the Nazi
swastika. The symbol was subsequently adopted by all the Free French
and appears on many insignia.
The intention of these web pages is not to give a history of the
French Resistance of World War 2 which is done much better elsewhere
but to form a meeting place for people who are interested in
re-enacting French Resistance (in all its forms).
We
in the French Resistance Group will be sharing the information we
have acquired on our travels (internet addresses, books, films, TV,
photos of interest etc) and hopefully others will do the same.
We
hope that other people who are interested in re-enacting French
Resistance as we are will join us to do coordinated walkabouts or
scenarios at events, static displays (display boards, objects of
interest, music and radio etc). Where possible, we also intend
to take part in battle re enactments with other groups. This
could take the form of military Free French units although to begin
with it would more likely to be Marquis and battles involving FFI
members as this format would be more flexible.
Our aim is to bring together like-minded people who wish to
investigate and research and re-enact together the French experience
of World War 2. We are an informal relaxed group and would welcome
re-enactors of FFI (Forces Français à l'Intérieur), FFE (Forces
Français à l'Extérieur) and Vichy (yes even some Vichy resisted in
their own way). The only exceptions are that we will not
include Milice and "Légion des Volontaires Français contre le
bolchevisme" who did not resist the Nazis.
IT
IS STRESSED FROM THE OUTSET THAT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DENIGRATE OTHERS
AND THEIR IDEAS OR VIEWS AND GENERALLY WHINGE ARE NOT WELCOME .
PLEASE GO AND FIND A MEETING PLACE MORE SUITED TO YOUR NEEDS.
We
would be interested in hearing from anyone with an interest in 1940s
French Resistance, and particularly from those who have first hand
knowledge and experiences of this genre of history. Some of
our members can speak and write English fluently - but this is not a
requirement for joining our group.
Nous
faisons bon accueil à vos expériences de résistance française dans
la guerre mondiale deux. Nous avons des membres qui peuvent lire et
écrire en français; nous souhaiterions donc recevoir vos email.
