be received from a variety of sources and it is published in good faith. The
Northamptonshire Bird Club will not in any way be held responsible for

All reports remain unauthenticated until acceptance by the Northamptonshire
Bird Report (Northants Birds) Records
Committee. Records are added in chronological order so be sure to scroll down
the whole table for the full detail.

site, time of observation, grid reference, etc). For the more uncommon species,

June summary
This
summary highlights the occurrences of the best birds of the last month, June
2008. All records are subject to acceptance by the Northants Birds (Northamptonshire Bird Report) Records Committee.
Apart from a singing male Icterine Warbler, June proved to be typically quiet
with perhaps the other most notable feature being the national influx of
Crossbills producing small numbers of birds at widely-scattered locations
across the County.
Whooper Swan The roaming adult from Pitsford Res and Stanford Res
visited Earls Barton GP on 23rd-25th.
Egyptian Goose One visited Ditchford GP on 10th.
Shelduck A pair at Earls Barton GP made a second breeding
attempt and a brood of ducklings was seen there towards the month’s end.
Garganey A drake was at Earls Barton GP between 4th and 13th.
Little Egret Singles visited Bozenham Mill on 6th, Earls Barton GP on
20th and Stanwick GP on 28th.
Black Kite One worn individual was watched heading north over Hanging
Houghton on 14th, although the possibility that it was a hybrid could not be
ruled out. Another with jesses attached was seen at Castle Ashby on 18th.
Osprey One flew NE over Earls Barton GP on 25th.
Goshawk One over Fineshade Wood on 17th.
Hobby A maximum count of 4-5 at Earls Barton GP on 13th.
Peregrine One over
Quail Single males were singing between Arthingworth and Kelmarsh
on 3rd, near Fawsley between 5th and 16th, near Maidwell on 7th and at
Bugbrooke on 11th.
Oystercatcher A pair with three well grown young was seen at on
location in the
Curlew One at Earls Barton GP on 29th.
Dunlin Singles visited Earls Barton GP on 11th, 16th and 19th.
Greenshank One at Earls Barton GP on 13th.
Green Sandpiper Returning migrants at Earls Barton GP from 23rd.
Wood Sandpiper One visited Earls Barton GP on 7th.
Common Sandpiper One at Earls Barton GP on 4th.
Turnstone One was on the dam at Sywell CP on 1st.
Yellow-legged Gull Four third-summers were at Earls Barton GP on 4th and up
to 7 were present at Ditchford GP from mid-month.
Little Tern One at Earls Barton GP on 16th.
Turtle Dove The very poor year continued with records only from
Arthingworth, Fineshade Wood, Horn Wood and Twywell.
Nightingale Males were reported singing at Arthingworth, Pitsford Res
and Yardley Chase.
Icterine Warbler A singing male was trapped and ringed at Stanford Res
on 14th. It was not seen subsequently. This individual formed part of a
mini-influx nationally, with others inland in Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire,
Hertfordshire and
Golden Oriole Singing males at both Brigstock and Pitsford Res on 1st.
Raven Records from Bugbrooke, Fawsley and Thrapston GP with a
maximum of 6 at Whittlebury on 29th.
Siskin Two juveniles on a garden feeder in
Crossbill The ongoing
national influx produced 20+ at Denton Wood on 10th with 9 there on 14th, 10-15
at Wakerley Great Wood and 2 at Paulerspury on 16th with 9 at nearby Hulcote,
12 at Fineshade Wood and 4 at Harlestone Heath on 17th and 5 at Cottesbrooke on
22nd.
