"A" Walk Sun 26th April 2009
(On The White & Dark Peak Maps.)

Leader Mark Pickin.

We parked in Bradwell Village in the Hope Valley it was a bright and sunny day, shorts weather again.  Nine men attended the low number due to a club holiday starting tomorrow.
We set off NE. into the fields over towards the main road, at Whear Hay Farm turning south up a steep track towards Shatton Edge.  After 300m we left the road to climb Shatton Moor it was so steep we nearly fell back on ourselves everyone was out of breath and sweating but Mark led the way still having his big coat on.  At the top we all collapsed behind a stone wall for morning break where Ash told us of the bargains in walking clothes at Aldi this week.  Afterwards we set off south to cross Abney Moor to Abney Grange where we descended to Great Hucklow Village for lunch at the Queens Arms Inn. (7 miles).
After sandwiches we sat in the beer garden enjoying a good pint of Golden Glory bitter in the afternoon sun.  Ashley gave us a fashion show of the Aldi wear and we all tried on the topcoat which was a bargain at £25.
After lunch we set off west along the road to the small village of Windmill then on to lead mining area of High Rake on over to join Pittlesmere Lane soon going north across Tideswell Moor to join the Limestone Way where we took afternoon break.  After break we followed the "Way" to Hazard Mine and turned east to follow the path back into Bradwell and an icecream before returning to the cars to end a most enjoyable day. (14 miles).
Many thanks to Mark for a well thought out walk.
