"B" Walk Sun 19th April 2009
(On The White Peak Map.)

Leader Edward Hambleton.

We parked in Hartington Village, the weather had been bright in Hanley it was dull and overcast but dry here, it would get bright and warm later in the morning.  Twenty five members attended Lorraine, Sue, Anne, Diane, Margaret and Marion nineteen men.
We set off south to join the River Dove, on entering Wolfscote Dale we could see high on the rock to the right the Charles Cotton Fishing Lodge where he entertained Izaac Walton the author of The Complete Angler while trout fishing in the River Dove. We continued on the pleasant riverside path to Mill Dale and took morning break sitting on the twin arched Viator,s Bridge.
Near the bridge is Dove Cottage built by Charles Cotton in the 1600,s and used for his fishing holidays with Isaac Walton, the cottage can still be rented with fishing rights for £600 a week.
After a pleasant break in the now bright sunshine we retraced our steps past the cottage turning east to climb a steep grass track up to the Tissington Trail going north along the trail.  As we walked in the sunshine we met Dave Joynson coming the other way on his bike to do a recce, after a short chat we carried on to leave the trail a mile further on to cross the fields to Biggin Village and the Waterloo Inn for lunch. (7 miles).
We sat in the beer garden in the afternoon sunshine to eat our sandwiches and enjoy a good pint of Black Sheep Bitter.  After lunch we set off east to enter the field opposite the church to go up to the trail again for a short while before taking a footpath on the left to cross to Heathcote Village where we regrouped by the quaint chapel, then over to Highfield Lane to take afternoon break.  It was not far now in to Hartington passing the Youth Hostel and down to the village square and the cars to end a good day out. (11 miles).
Many thanks to Edward for a good walk with such good weather.
