"A" Walk Sun 12th April 2009
(On The White Peak Map.)
Leader
John Williams.
We parked on Ecton Copper Mine car park half a mile from Warslow on a bright and sunny day, I was
in my shorts for the first time this year. 20 members attended,
Lorraine, Margaret, Marion, Joan and Anne and 15 men.
We set off along the Manifold Way south taking
the next footpath on the right going up a steep and muddy path to Warslow
Village Hall. Crossing the road and following the
footpath parallel to the main road going west down to Little Brownlow House
then on to the road. Going along to the footpath on the right to Stoneyfold Farm across the footbridge and up a steep field to Hill Farm
going northwest, taking morning break in the next field, Stan produced his
Pineapple which we all savoured while enjoying the views over to the Mermaid
Inn.
Afterwards we continued up to Upper Elkstone Village going through the village
and leaving at
Manor House Farm going north to the
bottom of the field to cross the footbridge into a mire
and everyone got covered in mud, going up another steep climb to Herbage Farm then
on
up to Herbage Barn on the main road to Warslow. Going across the road and
down to Lower Fleetgreen and over the roads to Little Fennyford, not far now
to Reaps Moor going over the footbridge and up to the Butchers Arms Inn for
lunch. (8 miles)
Most members will know this walker friendly pub where Carl the publican allows
us to eat our sandwiches inside. On buying the Directors Bitter, Carl
said there was sauce and mustard on the shelf if we needed it, we sat in a
room furnished with cast off three piece sofas and chairs and reminisced
about earlier visits to the pub.
After lunch we set off east to cross the Longnor road and down to Brund Mill then turned south to follow the road
before entering the fields to Townend where we had afternoon break.
After break we continued south to Hayesgate and Hollow Farm and
crossing the Hartington road and into the fields across to the Manifold
River. Its not far now, just across field to join the Manifold Way
then half a mile back to the cars to end a most enjoyable day.(13.5 miles).
Our thanks John for a well planned walk on such a
nice day.
Norman.
