You're probably
wondering at this stage, what we're really trying to achieve with this website.
And suprisingly, we do have a few serious reasons for making it.
First
and foremost, we wanted to make a website for students, which cut through all
the nonsense. Students are bombarded everyday with leaflets, pamplets and people,
giving them information on important issues such as accomodation and financial
advice etc. Websites which offer this content, although highly admirable, are
quite frankly boring. They offer nothing new, dont hold your attention and dont
cater for the average student.
Students have
enough on their plate these days really. There are so many things to think
about that are negative in student life, that the last thing we want to do
is remind anyone about it. We are perfectly aware of how much debt we are
in, and how long it will take to pay it back!! The social aspect of university
is the icing on the cake of 3/4 years of hard work, and what makes them the
best years of your life. So this website is deticated to the fun side of it
all, the light hearted upside of being a student. Yes its cliched and yes
its random, but thats the whole point! If it were about university work or
serious stuff, you'd never come back!! We'll leave that to your lecturers
to sort out!!
Secondly
we wanted to make it known, how easy website creation can be. You dont need
to know html, you dont need to have expensive software, and you dont need
to know how to program to make a website! We implemeted our site on free
trial software from Macromedia.
We used Macromedia Dreamweaver to make the pages, and Macromedia Flash to
make our animations. We had no prior knowledge of the software, and learned
how to use them from the inbuilt tutorials and help files. Guestbooks and
discussion pages can be obtained free of charge from Dreambooks
and EzBoard
respectivley. They can be modified onscreen to make links to title images,
customize colors and change user settings etc. With some practice, you can
make them seamlessly fit into your site. Free webspace is in abundance also.

Making
a site is not difficult! All the resources you will ever need are waiting
for you on the web already. There are thousands of pages offering turorials
and advice on every topic you could think of, or question you could ask!
Rather than tell you where they are, you should learn to get them yourself.
Simply type "webcreation tutorial" or "how to make websites"
for example into a good search engine.(we use Altavista).
The days of the average user needing to know html or have expansive knowledge
of computers are over!
