Birth to three days old – Feed I to 2 ml of milk substitute every 2 hours.
At birth – blind, deaf, pink and bald. Weight 7-25gms.
One hour – White prickles pushing through skin.
36 hours – Second coat of dark brown prickles emerging – start to jump if disturbed.

Three days to one week – Feed 1 to 2mls of milk substitute every 3 hours and leave through the night. Do not leave more than 6 hours between feeds.

One week
– Still blind and deaf, white prickles longer than brown ones. Whiskers emerge. Start to curl up at 11 days.

One to two weeks – Feed 2 to 3mls of milk every 3 hours.

Two weeks – More second coat prickles. Fine hairs like stubble on snout. Eyes and ears begin to open. Third coat of prickles larger and stronger begin to emerge.

Two to three weeks old – Feed 3 to 5mls of milk every 3 to 4 hours.

Three weeks old – Few white prickles left, good set of third stage prickles. First incisor teeth appear. Good dense covering of short brown hair.

Three to four weeks old – Feed 5 to 6mls every 3 to 4 hours – begin to give small dish of milk to encourage baby to lap.

Four weeks old – Lost rounded puppy like appearance of its snout, skin invisible by hair. Start solid food as milk teeth should have erupted. Should weigh 84 to 130gms.

Five to six weeks – Phase out hand feeds and give small dish of milk and liquid food. ( Hills AD is an ideal first food)

Six to eight weeks – Give tinned puppy food.

Eight weeks – Give dog or cat food (avoid fish and pork mixes) – Should now weigh 350gms
