Allen Family

The Allen family is my mother's paternal ancestry.  My grandfather was the youngest of ten and we have so far traced the Allen branch to a Thomas Allen, who married a Martha Lemon.  They were born some time in the late 1700s, although we do not have any dates yet.

Olive (Cozens) and Josiah Allen, c1920 are my Great Grandparents.

Maritime Tales - HMS Aboukir

Several Allens have been sailors, including the brothers William and Thomas Martin.  Both were on board HMS Aboukir on the night of 22nd September 1914, when the ship was torpedoed by a German submarine.  William was rescued and survived, but sadly Thomas Martin was not so fortunate and was not rescued.

An obituary to Thomas Martin is inscribed in the Regalia Hall, Kings Lynn.  The transcript of that inscription is included on the profile of Thomas Martin Allen in the database.
