How to Commission a Picture
Commissioning a picture is easy! And the process of creating it is fun, as it is very much a collaborative effort

1. You can initially email Terri at terrijonesart@yahoo.co.uk to discuss your commission ideas, or phone her - you might decide it's best to meet face to face to discuss your ideas. You can send Terri photos or other source material as reference for the picture. Please note that good quality and close up photos of faces are needed to enable an accurate likeness with portrait commissions. Terri can take photographs for you, if you need this service.
2. Terri then tries out your ideas and when you've agreed the basic design she records it in a sketch, you agree the size and medium (oil, watercolour, pastel or pencil) for the work and a fee that suits your budget. See Commission Fees

3. Terri then paints or draws the picture according to the sketch. She sends you photos of the picture at key stages in its development, so you can see how it is developing and give feedback on anything you would like changed.

4. When it is finished, she will contact you to organsie delivery.

You only pay Terri if you are happy with the finished result; if you were not happy with it, she would keep the picture and you would pay nothing.

Photos of People for Portrait Commissions

To get a good likeness of a person for a portrait, it's best if Terri can arrange a live sitting where she makes sketches and take photographs. Terri then creates the portrait in her studio. If this is not possible, the client can provide Terri with photographs to work from. Ideally these should include a photo with the person wearing the required clothes and sitting or standing in the posture for the portrait (especially in terms of how the head is held), and another with a close up view of the face in that posture that accurately shows the skin tone, hair and eye colour.
Photos of Pets & Animals for Commissions

Terri prefers to paint pets and animals from photographs, rather than from a live sitting. To create a good likeness, she needs photographs that accurately show the animal's coat and eye colour, shows the posture required for the commission (especially in terms of how the head is held), and gives good detail of the animal's face in the expression required for the portrait. This often means clients provide several photographs to work from. Alternatively, the client may request that Terri travel to meet the animal and take photographs herself to ensure she gets what's needed to create an exact likeness.
